The last few weeks in pictures!πŸ₯°

We have continued with our minibeast theme and enjoyed painting our potato print ladybirds. Counting how many spots they had and how many eyes!🐞

We spent a morning at Playtopia and saw our friends at playgroup.

We've also been walking along the canal for the last few Fridays in the hope of seeing some ducklings....
Today we saw 7 ducklings swimming past and stopped to sing to them.πŸ¦†πŸ’¦

Lots of fun and games in between and some lovely snuggly story times.πŸ’›

A new set up for a new term.πŸ˜ŠπŸ’›

Although this week we've spent more time outdoors making the most of the lovely weather!🌞

Walks along the canal, trips to the park and time in the garden.πŸ‘Œ

This week I introduced the topic:

MINIBEASTS!πŸžπŸπŸœπŸ›πŸ¦‹πŸ¦—πŸ•·

We have looked at lots of different insects and talked about what they look like, colours and features. Counting legs, spots and if they are flying insects or not.

We took a walk to look for these bugs and insects and managed to spot lots of them!

We also talked about where these insects lived and places they can be seen. Which led to what they eat....

We discussed that wildflower meadows are the perfect place for bugs and insects with plenty of food and hiding places, and because of this we need to look after the plants and flowers and make sure there are always lots of places for insects to visit.

We used bubble wrap on tubes to create our own wildflower meadows!🌼πŸͺ»πŸŒΌβš˜οΈπŸŒ±πŸŒΈ

I'm going to keep this topic running for a few more weeks as there are so many areas that can be covered within this, as well as refreshing the continuous provision available for my explorers!😊

Easter week 2! 😊

We've enjoyed a lovely week to end the Easter holidays.
We picked the best day to visit the zoo! Glorious sunshine all day.🌞

Giraffes are my new favourite animal and Evie now wants to work in a zoo!πŸ‘πŸ˜ŠπŸ¦πŸ¦§πŸ’πŸ―πŸ…πŸ¦“πŸ«πŸ¦’πŸ˜πŸ¦šπŸ§πŸ¦©πŸ¦œ

What a fabulous start to the Easter Holidays!😊🐰🐣πŸͺΊ

The explorers and I have visited the newly opened Playtopia, had a walk and a picnic at Cromwell Bottom and splashed in muddy puddles the whole way round Hollingworth Lake, finishing off with lunch at The Beach restaurant.πŸ’›

I hope all my explorers have a lovely Easter weekend and I will see you all on Tuesday!😊

A little bit of everything going on this week with my explorers!😊

We visited the Central library and had a picnic at the Piece Hall. Our friends at Sarah's house came by train so we watched some trains arriving whilst we waited for them.
The explorers are now planning their own ride on a train!πŸš†

The explorers planted sunflower seeds at playgroup and we've made leaf insects with the leaves we collected on the school run. πŸŒ»πŸƒπŸŒΏπŸͺ²

We have also crafted Mother's day cards with thanks for all our wonderful mummies and all the marvellous things they do!πŸ₯°πŸ’

I hope everyone has a fabulous day on Sunday!🩷

"All you do all day is play!"

A comment often heard when people express views about childcare professionals.πŸ™„

And yes, I agree, most of our day is spent engaging in play.....

But that 'PLAY' provides children with every single skill they need to grow, learn, develop and become confident and competent individuals.πŸ₯°

PLAY is a fundamental mode of learning.πŸ’›

And today I've spent time with a room full of childcare professionals who all agree that PLAY is the foundation of all learning and development in children.

Let's embrace and celebrate the joy of PLAY!πŸŽ‰

What can you make with a shape?!😊

Using both fine motor skills and their imagination, the explorers were asked to choose a shape from a small selection and then asked, What can you make using that shape?

We had rockets using rectangles and triangles, cars using circles and trains using both rectangles and squares. The younger children all had a practice at drawing round the shapes whilst learning the correct names.

We have loved our outdoor time in the garden and at our local park. 🌞🌳

We celebrated World book day by making book marks and reading some new books. πŸ“š

We celebrated World book day this year by adding some new books to our collection.😊

All familiar stories that the children know and love, but somehow we didn't have a copy of any of them!

I'm looking forward to reading these again and again over the next few weeks, bringing them to life with props and actions, movement and dance.πŸ₯°

The children preparing to leave for school this year have been practicing forming letters of their name. Starting with one or two letters at a time and continuing as far as they felt they could.

Getting familiar with how to grip the pen for better control and learning which movements create the letters.

A few of the younger ones also wanted to try using the white boards so they all had a go too.

They did so well and created some wonderful letter shapes, one of them managing to write out his whole name!πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

We have been back to playgroup after the half term break and have enjoyed time out in the garden.
