Half term has arrived!

The explorers have enjoyed their final week of Halloween themed activities by visiting the pumpkin patch at Gordon Rigg garden centre, decorating trick or treat baskets at playgroup, and a mini Halloween disco to end the week.🎃🕷🧛‍♂️💀👻🧙‍♀️

I hope all my little explorers have a lovely week off!
I am ready for some family time too. 🥰

Halloween rice tray and yoghurt pot ghosts this week!🖤🧡💜💚🤍

We've had pumpkin soup on the menu in the homecorner with pinecones for dessert.😋

The explorers have enjoyed a visit to playgroup and to see our friends at Sarah's house.🥰

We're getting ready for Halloween with a visit to the library to source some Halloween themed stories! 🧙‍♀️

The children chose Room on the Broom, All about Zog and Winnie the witch....which I have read on repeat all week, and by Thursday I'd given myself a sore throat doing the witches accent each time!🤣

Some of the older children have been starting to sound out words so we practiced sounding out some CVC words using letter blocks. This led to writing names out in the garden and finding letters of our names from the wooden alphabet letters.

The younger children have been selecting the small world and imaginative role play resources. We have set up a tea party, a baby's bed and numerous different train tracks.

We ended the week with a visit to Playtopia.😊

Next week we make a start on our Halloween arts and crafts!😊👻

The Colour Monster has been our focus this week.❤️💛🩵🩶💚🩷

Talking openly about feelings, what they may look like in our actions and what can trigger certain feelings.

And more importantly, how we can manage these feelings.

We've practiced deep breathing, yoga and focused on using words to share feelings.

It's so important for children to have the courage to express themselves and know they will be heard.🥰

As well as this, we have been to playgroup and continued to practice our letter sounds and numbers through fun games. 😊

Our last few weeks in pictures!🤎🍁🍂

We've been spending lots of time in the garden enjoying the sunshine and getting out for walks.

Continuing with our library visits and mornings at playgroup too.

Sounds have been a popular theme these last few weeks, particularly those in our names. So we have been looking at sounds and letters, writing letters and making letters with the provision.

Numbers 1-20 are still embedded within our everyday activities and we are continuing with self-serving for mealtimes!

With Autumn approaching fast we went on a hunt for conkers to add to the playdough and spent time at the park.

Let's hope we hold on to the dry weather for just a while longer.🤞

How are we halfway through September already?!🍁🍂

We started the week with a walk to collect leaves for our leaf insects. When we spotted lovely red leaves, we decided we had to collect as many as we could for red insects!

We've been looking at numbers 1-20 with the older explorers, using number blocks and Autumn themed resources to help us.
The aim is to show that numbers are more then just stand alone values, and that they are used to represent quantities of lots of different things.....

Counting to 20 is great, but having a deeper understanding of how numbers are made up and used for learning is the next step.😊

The younger explorers have been enjoying lots of imaginative role play and we've been developing their language and communication.

Singing and story time has been a great way of doing this. Repeating stories so they start to anticipate the endings to sentences and highlighting certain words and phrases for them to copy.👌

First week back!💛

It's been lovely to get back to my work routine again!
Welcoming all the explorers back after Summer and starting with a new core provision set up.👍

We have got straight back to it, with some cookie making, Autumn leaf printing, playgroup and colour mixing using the water colour palettes.🎨🍪🍂🍁

We have also returned to self-serving!
The majority of my cohort this year will be starting school next September, so we'll be practising skills that develop independence, having confidence in their own abilities, making positive choices, taking pride in their achievements, expressing wants and needs clearly, consequences and how their behaviour can influence others and exploring emotional and physical boundaries.

It's going to be fun!🥰
