Cyber crime isn’t always a hoodie-wearing hacker in a dark room.

Sometimes it’s just a convincing email, a fake invoice, or a dodgy link that someone clicks before the kettle’s boiled.

That’s why we’re running a Cyber Security Workshop with Bedfordshire Police Cyber Crime Unit on 2nd July 2026.

A practical, hands-on day for SMEs covering:

✅ How criminals target businesses
✅ How to spot scams and fake emails
✅ Simple ways to protect your business
✅ Cyber escape room
✅ Cyber Lego tabletop exercise
✅ Refreshments, obviously ☕

No jargon. No scare tactics. Just useful advice you can actually use.

Think Microsoft 365 keeps everything safe forever? Think again.

Microsoft 365 is built for availability — not complete data recovery. That means if emails, files or collaboration data are deleted, encrypted or compromised, the responsibility to restore them sits with your business.

Acronis Protected 365 uses AI-powered protection and security so recovery is possible when things go wrong.

Need a reliable backup plan you can trust? Contact us today for all your IT support — we’ll make sure your data is protected.

RANT POST TIME!!!!!! Another day, another webdesigner moving nameservers…

…but NOT THE BLOODY DNS RECORDS.😡😡😡😡

Which in plain English means:

✅ Website might work
❌ Emails might stop
❌ Microsoft 365 might stop behaving
❌ Random systems might break
❌ Everyone points at IT and says “what have you done?”

Lovely.

Now, before the web designers come at me with pitchforks and WordPress plugins…

We work with some brilliant web designers who fully understand DNS and are great at communicating before they touch anything.

This isn’t aimed at you.

This is aimed at the “I have no idea what DNS does really but I do design pretty websites” brigade.

DNS records are basically the internet’s sat nav.

They tell the internet where things need to go.

Your website?
That points to where your site is hosted.

Your emails?
They usually point to Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace.

Other systems?
They may have their own records too.

So when someone changes nameservers without copying everything over properly, it’s like moving office and not telling anyone.

Great, the website might load.

But now your emails have gone wandering around the internet wearing a confused expression.

If your web designer controls your domain or nameservers, please, please, please DO NOT let anyone change them without checking the DNS records first.

Because when email stops working, it’s never “the web designer changed something”.

It’s always:

“Our emails are down what have you done?” Not at the Webdesigner obviously straight to the IT department

And there we are, trying to piece it all back together like a broken custard cream.

Before making changes to your domain, speak to your IT provider.

Your website matters.

But your email, security records, remote access, verification records and business systems matter too.

DNS is not the place for guesswork.

It’s the place for a proper plan.

You didn’t start your accountancy or your legal business because you fancied becoming the unofficial IT department….

But somehow, here you are.
Resetting passwords.

Answering “quick IT questions”.

Wondering why the printer has decided it didnt fancy printing the 5th sheet of the 10 you wanted

Lying awake at 11pm thinking…
“Did I click that dodgy link earlier?”

Nobody really talks about this side of running a business.

That low-level worry that your IT setup is held together with hope, antivirus and the password Steve wrote on a Post-it note in 2019.

You don’t know if everything is properly protected.

You just know it hasn’t broken yet.

And that’s a dangerous place to be.

Because IT shouldn’t be another thing constantly eating into your week or sitting in the back of your mind like the last broken biscuit in the tin.

You’ve got a business to run.

Your IT should be helping you do that, not quietly creating stress in the background.

Is your IT setup actually solid…
…or has it just been lucky so far?

Cyber criminals aren't targeting your server…..

They're targeting Sandra in accounts.
And she's very helpful.

At a recent event we did with Bedfordshire Police, one stat really stood out:
85% of businesses that identified a breach or attack said it involved phishing.

That’s staff receiving fake emails or landing on dodgy websites.
This is why cyber awareness training matters.

Your team need to know how to spot fake invoices, dodgy links, password scams and impersonation emails.

One “be careful out there” email every six months isn’t training.

That’s hope.

And hope is not a cyber security strategy.

When did your team last have proper cyber awareness training?

Have you tried turning it off and on again?...

Yes, I know.

Us IT geeks have a bad rep for saying this line.

And trust me, we cringe a little every time it leaves our mouths…

…because we can practically hear your eyes rolling from the other end of the phone.🙄

But annoyingly… it works.

A restart gives your device a quick clear-out.
It closes things that have got stuck, applies updates properly, and stops your laptop behaving like it needs an afternoon nap.

Think of it like giving your laptop a Bank Holiday weekend. A quick rest, a reset, and hopefully it comes back less grumpy on Tuesday.

Sometimes it just needs a breather.

So when we ask you to restart, we’re not fobbing you off I promise.

We’re starting with the simple fix that works far more often than people like to admit.

When did you last restart your laptop? Be honest 😄

The longest I have seen was about 300 days (Not a client of ours by the way they get plenty of bank holiday resets🤣)

5 Cyber Essentials questionnaires completed for clients in the last month….

Now, technically, they could have done them themselves.

In the same way I could service my own car
Possible? Yes.

Recommended? Absolutely not.

The thing with Cyber Essentials is that it is not just a box-ticking exercise.
When we complete the questionnaire for a client, we are not guessing.

We already know:
✅ What devices they use
✅ Who has access to their systems
✅ How their Microsoft 365 is configured
✅ What security controls are in place
✅ Where their data lives
✅ What needs tightening up

And we do not just copy and paste last year’s answers and hope for the best.

Each time, we check what was submitted previously, make sure it is still correct, and update it in line with the latest Cyber Essentials requirements.

Because IT changes.
People join.
People leave.
New devices appear.
Old settings get forgotten.
Software changes.
Cyber Essentials requirements change.

So the answer that was correct last year might not be correct today.

That is why having your IT provider involved makes a big difference.

It is not about “getting a pass”.

It is about making sure what you say you do is actually what is happening in your business.

A bit like checking the biscuit tin before telling everyone there are Jammie Dodgers left.
You might be confident…

…but it is best to actually look. 😄

Has your business reviewed its Cyber Essentials answers recently, or are you hoping last year’s setup is still good enough?

Sound familiar?

Your team is juggling:
- spreadsheets in multiple tabs 📁
- 3–15 different SaaS tools ⚙️
- several databases 🏢
- slow legacy systems that hold everything up 🖥️

That mix creates delays, gaps and avoidable mistakes.

A single, unified environment gives your people one clear place to work — reducing tool overload and improving reliability.

Who remembers the good old Woolworths Pick n Mix?

Unfortunately, some businesses think IT support and Cyber Security is just like a Pick n Mix.

You can’t really say:
“Support these 8 users, but not Dave as he only pops in twice a week to do the accounts.” And yes, I have actually heard this 🙄

“Look after these laptops, but ignore that one we only use it for the Monday meeting.”

“Secure this email account, but that one is probably fine.”
Because that’s where the problems start.
· The unsupported laptop.
· The forgotten mailbox.
· The user who “only needs access to a few things”.
· The old account nobody checks anymore.

That one exception becomes the weak point. Cyber criminals love a weak point.

It’s a bit like locking the front door, fitting an alarm, installing cameras…
…and then leaving the back gate open because “nobody really uses it”.

If your IT setup has lots of little exceptions, workarounds and “just for now” decisions, it might be time to give it a proper review.

Because IT support should protect the whole business

What’s the biggest “IT workaround” you’ve seen in a business?
