There’s something about the first big bank holiday heatwave that always feels like the true beginning of festival season.
Soon fields across the country will fill with music, laughter, the smoke from BBQs and thousands of people chasing that feeling only live events can create.
And for a few months, normal life feels just a little further away.
But whilst thousands of people are arriving to enjoy the sunshine and the atmosphere, crews across the country are already deep into some of the toughest weeks of their year.
Riggers working at height in the heat.
Technicians pushing flight cases across dusty festival sites.
Engineers building systems under blazing sun.
Truck drivers covering impossible miles.
The people loading in long before the gates open and leaving long after the crowds disappear.
And they’ll do it all again next weekend and the weekend after that. all the way through until the warmth of summer slowly begins to fade and the colder autumn nights start creeping back in.
Live events can look effortless from the outside.
But anyone in this industry knows the reality: they’re built on teamwork, resilience, experience and an enormous amount of passion from people who genuinely care about what they do.
So as another summer season begins, spare a thought for the people building the stages, the systems and the moments we all remember long after the tan lines have faded.
Here’s to another summer of unforgettable moments.
