Your goals should make some decisions easier.

If they don’t, they probably aren’t clear enough.

A founder might say:

“We want to grow.”

But grow how?

More revenue?

More customers?

Higher margins?

A bigger team?

A new market?

Until the outcome is clear, everything feels important.

A good goal acts as a decision filter.

It helps you decide:

→ What gets your attention

→ What gets resources

→ What gets measured

→ What gets deprioritised

Then objectives turn the goal into action.

Goal: Increase revenue by 25%.

Objectives:

→ Generate 15 qualified leads each week

→ Improve conversion from 12% to 18%

→ Launch a new offer by Q4

Clarity isn’t about doing more.

It’s about knowing what to do next.

What decision would become easier if your business goal was clearer?

Our latest newsletter article provides a simple test for your business goals:

Do they change your behaviour?

If the answer is no, they probably aren’t goals yet.

“We need to grow.”

“We need more customers.”

“We need to improve profitability.”

These are intentions.

A useful goal gives you a clear outcome.

Then objectives turn that outcome into measurable movement.

For example:

🎯 Goal: Increase monthly revenue.

📍 Objective: Generate 15 qualified leads per week.

📍 Objective: Launch one new offer by Q4.

📍 Objective: Improve conversion from 12% to 18%.

That’s the difference between saying what you want and deciding what you’re going to do about it.

And this is where SMART goals are useful — not as corporate jargon, but as a way of adding precision to your ambition.

Specific.

Measurable.

Achievable.

Relevant.

Time-bound.

Your business becomes what you aim at.

So take five minutes this week:

What outcome are you actually aiming at?

Then ask:

What needs to happen for you to get there?

Most founders don’t have an ambition problem.

They have a translation problem.

They know what they want to achieve — more revenue, more customers, a stronger team, a bigger business — but they haven’t turned that ambition into a clear outcome.

That’s where goal-setting matters.

A goal isn’t a wish.

It’s a decision filter.

It should help you answer:

→ What should I do next?

→ What should I ignore?

→ What should I measure?

→ How will I know I’m making progress?

And this is where goals and objectives work together.

Goal: Increase monthly revenue.

Objectives:

→ Generate 15 qualified leads per week.

→ Launch a new offer by Q4.

→ Increase conversion from 12% to 18%.

The goal gives you the destination.

The objectives give you the route.

And SMART goals add the precision needed to turn ambition into action: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound.

The real test?

If your goal doesn’t change what you do this week, it probably isn’t clear enough yet.

Your business becomes what you aim at.

So, what outcome are you aiming at this quarter?

Stop setting goals. Start setting weekly objectives.

One of the biggest challenges for a business founder is turning a big ambition into something practical.

"I want to grow my business."

Great.

But what does that mean on Monday morning?

This is where weekly objectives make a difference.

Take your bigger goal and ask:

What needs to happen this week to move me closer to it?

Then make it measurable.

For example:

🎯 Goal: Grow the business

📌 Weekly objective: Generate 10 new qualified leads

📊 Measure: Number of qualified conversations

🚀 Action: Contact 20 potential customers

Now you have something you can actually review on Friday.

Did it happen?

If not, why not?

What needs to change next week?

This is how goals become behaviour — and behaviour becomes progress.

Don't wait until the end of the year to discover whether your goals are working. Review them every Friday.

What are you saying NO to this week?

It's easy to think that successful entrepreneurs are constantly saying yes.

Yes to new opportunities.

Yes to new customers.

Yes to new ideas.

Yes to new projects.

But sometimes achieving your biggest goal means saying no.

A good business goal isn't just something you want to achieve.

It's a decision filter.

It helps you decide:

✅ What deserves your attention

❌ What can wait

❌ What isn't aligned with your priorities

❌ What could take your eye off the ball

This Friday, take 10 minutes and ask yourself:

What did I work on this week that moved me closer to my goal?

And perhaps more importantly:

What did I spend time on that didn't?

Your answer could be more valuable than another hour on your to-do list.

💬 What have you deliberately ignored this week because it wasn't helping you achieve your goal?

Business start-ups guide to setting goals that actually work

Most founders set goals that sound good — but don’t guide anything. A real founder‑grade goal is a decision filter. It tells you what to say yes to, what to say no to, and what to ignore completely.

The moment you set a goal that actually guides, your business becomes simpler. You stop chasing noise. You stop reacting. You start choosing.

Here’s the shift: Your goal must create weekly behaviour. If it doesn’t tell you what to do this week, it’s not a goal — it’s a slogan.

Tie every goal to a measurable shift. Tie every shift to a weekly action. Tie every weekly action to a Friday review.

When your goals guide your decisions, your business stops drifting and starts compounding.

Your weekly challenge.

Every Friday do the following:

Set yourself an objective that will assist you to achieve your goal.

Measure your success against that objective.

Determine action required to achieve your goal.

Make this a habit, Don’t put it off because you are too busy.

Why not tell us what objectives you have achieved during the week and how you achieved them.

What have you ignored this week as it would take “your eye off the ball?”

This could inspire other business start-ups to achieve their goals and objectives.
