Don't currently recognise a trade union? These changes could still affect your business. π¨π
From 30 October 2026, employers will have a new duty to provide workers with a written statement explaining their right to join a trade union, alongside their statement of employment particulars.
Wider reforms will also strengthen trade union access rights and protections for representatives and workers taking protected industrial action.
So, what can employers do now? π€
Review your onboarding documentation, contracts, policies and employee handbook. Think about how you'll provide the new statement to workers and who would manage a trade union access request if one was received.
It's also important that managers understand the changes and feel confident responding appropriately if trade union matters arise.
