Big thanks to our customer Tom from who sent in his latest project - a custom Prepreg Carbon Fibre Bike Frame!

Tom was inspired by some of our tutorials and applied his skills from his career in industrial design and own projects to turn his hand to making carbon fibre bike frames.

Full tutorial: https://tinyurl.com/alloycore - Complex hollow carbon fibre forms, like this induction tube section, can be produced by casting a fusible mandrel out of low-melt alloy, onto which prepreg reinforcement is laminated and then shrink wrapped. Oven curing at below the melting point of the alloy ensures it remains totally solid, before increasing the temperature to melt out the core, leaving the cured, hollow tube. All materials from Easy Composites.

Perfect for one-off projects like eco-marathon, solar cars and Formula Student on a budget, in this tutorial we demonstrated a mouldless construction technique of laminating carbon fibre over shaped XPS foam. With effort and some skill, fantastic results can be acheived on a minimum budget.

Big thanks to Jarred for sharing his work with us. Together with his Dad, Jarred has now produced his second set of full resin infused carbon fibre bodywork for the car he races in the Clubmans Sports Prototype Championship.

As with any racer, the aim was to to make the car lighter, stronger and more aerodynamic which Jarred achieved with a resin infused light-heavy-light carbon layup using 200g Black Stuff and 450g Twill Carbon Fibre.
