Well, that didn’t take long to prove its worth.

Yesterday I shared this Callidus pre-built Victron system, installed by one of our trade partners to provide resilience for a customer’s critical IT infrastructure.

Just one day after installation, the entire industrial estate suffered a power cut.

For this customer, however, the system did exactly what it was designed to do.

Their critical IT infrastructure remained operational, protecting the systems relied upon by around 80 people and allowing the business to continue operating while the surrounding estate was without power.

The system combines 6 × 15 kVA Victron MultiPlus-II units — two per phase — with 117 kWh of Pytes V12 battery storage, an external transfer-switch architecture and integration with the customer’s existing rooftop solar.

Battery storage is often discussed in terms of energy savings and solar utilisation. But for a commercial customer, the value of resilience and business continuity can be considerably greater.

In this case, it took one day to demonstrate exactly why the investment was made.

⚡ Has your off-grid system run out of power?

At Historic Helicopters, their original three-phase off-grid system was no longer large enough for the growing site.

Instead of replacing everything, we expanded it — doubling the available power from 10 kVA to 20 kVA per phase, increasing battery storage to 108 kWh and adding 40 kW of solar PV.

From individual properties to multi-megawatt systems, the same principle applies: build the power system around what the site actually needs.

Our distributed Victron microgrid approach allows solar, battery storage and inverter capacity to be added in stages and connected through a 3-phase AC microgrid. A system can start small and grow as demand increases — from a single home or commercial building through to a housing development or major industrial site.

It can also solve the problem of a limited grid connection. If the grid can only supply, for example, 100 kW but the site occasionally needs 200 kW, the battery and inverter system can provide the additional power while keeping the grid import within its limit. This can allow much larger equipment, machinery, EV charging or other high-demand loads to operate without necessarily having to increase the grid connection.

It also provides greater resilience. Because generation, storage and inverter capacity can be distributed around the site, a fault in one part of the system does not necessarily take everything down. Other sections can continue operating, reducing the impact of a failure and helping maintain power to critical loads.

The result is a power solution that can be:

Grid connected
Off-grid capable
Used to overcome grid capacity limitations
Expanded as demand grows
Designed for greater resilience

Today I had the pleasure of spending the day at UTC Newton Abbot taking part in mock interviews with Year 11 students.

It was genuinely encouraging to see the enthusiasm, ambition and practical skills coming through from the next generation.

A few examples that really stood out

�🔹 Another set themselves the goal of saving £1,100 by working for neighbours and others in the garden for a year for a PC to help with their college work and future development. Which he then built himself from parts.
�🔹 Many others spoke confidently about the projects, challenges and goals they are working towards.

It was refreshing to meet young people who are not just thinking about qualifications, but are actively building practical skills, solving problems and investing in their own future.
