Some of our client relationships are measured in years rather than projects.

This one has been with us for three. In that time we’ve helped with everyday questions, reviewed how they run things internally, and kept them up to speed when employment law moved. The aim is simple: be easy to reach, give a clear answer, and be useful before they have to ask.

Thank you to this client for sticking with us, and to the team who’ve looked after them along the way.

🏆 We won! 🎉

ViewHR picked up the Community Award at the Business Awards last week.

Ringwood is home for us, and the time we put into the community outside our day-to-day HR work is something the whole team cares about. It’s lovely to see that recognised.

Our Legal Director Paul Burton is joining Breathe and HR Grapevine on Tuesday 17th November for a free webinar: Employment law 2027: are you ready? What to do before and after 1 January.

The next round of changes lands on 1 January. New unfair dismissal rules and restrictions on fire and rehire are the headline items, and employers will also have a new duty to tell workers about their trade union rights. For a lot of small and medium-sized businesses, the hard part is knowing what to tackle first.

Paul will be joined by other HR and employment law experts to walk through what’s changing and exactly what to do about it. You’ll come away with a simple checklist for the run-up to January, practical ways to stay compliant without adding to your workload, and a look at what’s coming later in 2027.

There’s a live Q&A at the end, so bring your questions.

You can still say no to a flexible working request. But a quick written refusal without a conversation first is unlikely to hold up.

Sophie has written a clear guide to handling requests in 2026, including the eight business reasons for refusal and where a reasonable-looking decision can still land you in trouble.

Read it here:

Day one rights, two requests a year and a two-month deadline. Sophie explains what UK employers need to know about flexible working requests in 2026.

From 1st January 2027, the qualifying period for unfair dismissal drops from two years to six months.

If your approach to dismissing newer starters is built on the two year rule, it's time for a rethink. That's one of seven disciplinary myths Annalie has busted in her latest blog. A few of the others might surprise you.

Most weekends, you'll find Joanne Hatch on the side of a very steep hill in Wales.

Her son races downhill mountain bikes at national level, so Jo and her husband spend plenty of weekends (and a fair bit of annual leave) cheering him on from the mountainside. When she's not there, she's usually on horseback or in the gym, where most of her days start at 6am.

Jo is our Associate Director. She specialises in employee relations and complex HR cases, and she's happiest when a situation has lots of moving parts. Clients tell us they value her honesty and the way she explains complicated situations so they know exactly what to do next.

She's also quick to point out that HR isn't all problems. A lot of her work is the good stuff, like recruiting great people and making sure their success gets recognised so they stay.

Something you might not know: Jo qualified as a chef straight out of school. She didn't make a career of it, but her friends and family still get the benefit.

Ask her to describe the team and she'll tell you we're passionate, supportive and humorous. We'll take that.

“Do we need a diagnosis before we can offer support?” It’s one of the most common questions we hear from managers. With waiting lists running into years, the answer matters more than ever.

Joanne Hatch looks at what the government’s new review means for employers, and the low-cost adjustments that help straight away.

Plenty of the workplace disputes we're asked to help with started as a clash of styles that nobody spotted early enough.

A direct manager and a thoughtful, cautious team member can drive each other mad without either realising why. Left alone, that turns into frustration, then complaints, then something more formal.

We use Insights Discovery to get ahead of that. It helps people see how they come across to others, and gives managers a practical way to adapt how they lead different people.

It's one of the most useful things a team can do together, and it costs far less than dealing with the fallout later.

Mediation has a reputation as a last resort. We'd argue it works better as an early one.

Often it's two people who used to get on perfectly well. Something shifted, maybe a comment in a meeting or a restructure that changed who reports to whom, and it's been left to fester.

That said, there are situations where mediation is the wrong call and a formal process needs to start straight away. Knowing the difference protects your people and your business.

Explore how to manage workplace conflict effectively by understanding the pros and cons of mediation versus formal procedures—and learn when each approach is most appropriate for your organisation.
