Inclusion cannot sit with one person.
It cannot be a job role.

Much like safeguarding, inclusion has to be part of the everyday culture of a setting — built into interactions, routines, relationships and leadership.

Really enjoyed being part of the Realise Early Years Round Table podcast this week discussing:

🎙️ “Inclusion Starts Here: Practical Approaches for Every Setting.”

One of the biggest reflections from the conversation was the importance of recognising barriers to learning early and responding through everyday practice — not waiting for diagnosis before support begins.

Inclusive cultures are built when:
✨ Every team member takes responsibility
✨ Staff feel confident to adapt and respond
✨ Children feel seen, safe and valued
✨ Families feel listened to and included

Thank you to Realise for the opportunity to be part of such an important conversation for the sector.

Receiving feedback like this never gets old.

At Marathon Early Years Consultancy, we believe meaningful support should feel reflective, practical and genuinely bespoke to each setting. Whether that is through leadership mentoring, safeguarding systems, quality improvement work or practical toolkits, our aim is always the same — to create sustainable impact that supports children, teams and leaders long term.

Thank you to Petra and the team at Colourbox Montessori School for your kind words and trust in our work.

From our Single Central Record toolkit through to consultancy and leadership support, it means a great deal to know the resources and guidance are helping settings feel more confident, organised and inspection ready.

Excellence isn’t a sprint — it’s a marathon.

Proud to have supported the leadership team at The Learning Experience as they continue to strengthen their confidence and understanding around the Renewed Inspection Toolkit.

What stood out throughout the day was the team’s openness to reflection, professional discussion and their genuine commitment to continually developing leadership practice across the setting.

Strong leadership is not about having all the answers immediately — it’s about creating a culture where teams feel empowered to reflect, grow and lead with purpose. That commitment was clear to see throughout the day.

At Marathon Early Years Consultancy , we believe sustainable improvement happens through ongoing development, supportive challenge and investing in people over time.

A huge thank you to The Learning Experience leadership team for welcoming us and for their honesty, professionalism and dedication to achieving the very best for children, families and staff. 👏

Inclusion isn’t a job title—it’s a culture. But does our current structure truly reflect that?

We talk a lot about the SENCo role—and rightly so. But what about everything beyond SEND? The children navigating language barriers, wellbeing needs, family circumstances…

Should inclusion sit with one person? Or should it be something we all own?

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking around this—what it means for practice, for leadership, and for the children in our care.

Not about changing everything overnight… but about building something more sustainable.

Do we sometimes rush the most important moments? 🍽️

Washing up after a meal might feel like “just a routine”…
But actually, it’s packed with learning 👇

• independence
• coordination
• language and interaction
• responsibility

When we slow things down, children have time to try, practise and feel proud of what they can do ❤️

These everyday moments really do matter.

Just a quick reminder too 👇
If you have children with allergies or intolerances, make sure water is changed regularly as part of your dynamic risk assessment to keep everyone safe.

How do you build independence into your daily routines?
