🪷 Revered as a protector who hears every cry for help.

Tara is one of the most beloved figures in Tibetan Buddhism. She is a female bodhisattva of compassion, often called the 'mother of liberation', and people turn to her for guidance through danger and fear. Her image has been cast, painted and prayed before across the Himalayas for centuries.

This Tibetan gilt bronze shows her jewelled and riding on a phoenix, a dramatic composition that stands out from the more familiar seated figures. At 24 x 20 x 12cm, it has real sculptural presence on a shelf or mantelpiece.

🪵 Before central heating and open-plan living, the folding screen did a lot of work.

It kept out draughts, gave people privacy and turned one room into two. The best ones were made to be admired as much as used. Indian craftsmen have long been celebrated for marquetry: pieces of contrasting wood cut and fitted together to build up intricate decoration across a surface.

This impressive Indian hardwood screen shows that tradition on a grand scale, standing 182cm tall and 130cm wide when open. A real statement piece for a hallway, a living room or a quiet corner of a bedroom.
