Networking, Connections - and a Little Creative Spark!
Networking isn’t just about referring work opportunities - it’s just as much about making connections, and that was very evident at today’s Wealden Business Group breakfast meeting. Our speaker, Edward Chapman, first met WBG member Heather when he came into her shop (Mara Amore Glass Workshop and Studio in the High Street) - a chance meeting that led to Ed joining us this morning to talk about his fascinating career creating mosaics and his work and connections with some iconic figures from the worlds of culture and politics.
Heather also brought along some of her beautiful handmade kaleidoscopes, which are individual, colourful and apparently selling like hot cakes! Between Ed’s presentation of his extraordinary mosaic work and Heather’s sparkling kaleidoscopes, we were all thoroughly bedazzled - there was almost a stunned silence when we reached “Any questions?” The common thread running through the morning was glass, creativity and artistic expression.

And there’s another side to Ed’s creativity. He has written a brand-new play, The Actor & The Villain, inspired by the remarkable real-life meeting between Hollywood superstar Richard Burton and notorious gangster Ronnie Kray. The intimate two-hander explores what happened when actor met villain - and the lines between fame and infamy, performance and reality began to blur.
The Actor & The Villain is at The Old Dairy Taproom, Tenterden, on Thursday 24 September, 7.30pm-9.30pm (arrive from 7pm). Written by Edward E. H. Chapman, directed by Tony Cassidy and starring Thomas Lloyd-Edwards and Ben Smyth. Tickets ÂŁ13.50 including booking fee. https://www.mytenterden.co.uk/events/the-actor-the-villan-at-old-dairy-taproom-listing-1851-165180.aspx
