For the first time, Truro School Cookery is partnering with Truro Food Festival to bring two renowned guest chefs into our kitchens for a pair of intimate, hands-on masterclasses.

With just 20 places available for each session, this is a rare opportunity to step away from the festival crowds and get behind the stove alongside chefs who have travelled to Cornwall especially for the occasion.

On Saturday 26 September, join Nisha Parmar for a vibrant journey into the flavours of her family kitchen, learning to make her signature butter chicken, fresh naan, kachumber salad and an Indian dessert.

Then, on Sunday 27 September, discover Māori food culture with acclaimed Māori chef Matt Burgess (matblak). Moving between our professional kitchens and outdoor fire-cooking spaces, you'll explore indigenous ingredients, live-fire techniques and the stories behind the food as you create a spectacular menu together.

These aren't demonstrations where you simply watch from the sidelines.

You'll be cooking, learning and eating alongside the chefs, with plenty of opportunity for guidance, questions and conversation before sitting down together to enjoy what you've created.

These two events on site at Truro School, join a wonderful line-up as part of the wider Food Festival, taking place between Wednesday 23 – Sunday 27 September.

☀️ What a summer at Truro School!

More than 1,000 children joined us for an action-packed summer of sport, cookery, art, outdoor activities and more. From across Cornwall and beyond, our campers made the most of the school’s fantastic facilities and had plenty of fun along the way.

🍞 Budding chefs baked, cooked and created delicious dishes in our kitchens.

🏊 Young lifeguards gained their Rookie Lifeguard qualification, while our multi-sports campers enjoyed days packed with activity.

🤺 Young fencers travelled from as far as Hong Kong, Germany, Turkey and Switzerland for an international residential fencing camp.

🎨 Our art sessions inspired creativity through Gelli printing, monoprinting, nature sketching, clay and more.

🎭 And beyond our Activity Camps, The Ode came alive with performances including Cats and Peer Gynt.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us this summer — we hope you had a fantastic time! 💙

Nature Sketchbooks & Printmaking Workshop participants from our Activity Camps, recently spent a creative day exploring the world of printmaking and art with Truro School Artist-in-Residence and practising artist, Rachael Coward.

Specialist-led days like this are a wonderful opportunity for children to step outside their usual activities, try something new and learn directly from creative professionals. Along the way, they develop new skills, build confidence and, of course, have plenty of fun with friends.

Rachael brought her own passion for printmaking, installation and artist books to the session. Her practice explores themes of heritage, language, place and belonging, and she has worked across the arts and heritage sectors in the South West and South East of England. Having completed a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design before graduating with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Falmouth University, Rachael has also exhibited her own work and continues to develop her artistic practice alongside her role at Truro School.

The children began their day in the fantastic Truro School Art Studios, experimenting with a range of printmaking techniques, including Gelli printing and mono printing. They explored colour, pattern, texture and composition, using pencils, pens, chalks and mixed media to see how different materials could be combined.

The creativity didn’t stay inside for long, though. Taking inspiration from the natural world around them, the group headed outdoors to collect leaves, flowers and other natural forms. These became the starting points for nature sketching and observational drawing, as well as clay impressions made from objects they discovered.

Back in the studio, the children continued to experiment, working independently and together to develop their ideas. Their sketchbooks gradually filled with an array of colourful prints, drawings and creative experiments – pieces they could take home and share with their families.

There were plenty of smiles throughout the day as the children discovered new ways to be creative, experimented without worrying about getting everything ‘right’ and let their individual artistic styles shine in a supportive environment.

Fancy giving your young artist a chance to explore printmaking?

We have a limited number of places remaining on our final specialist printmaking course of the season. This session is designed for a slightly older age group of 11–16 years and will be led by Truro School Art Teacher Gizela Daemi-Rashid.

The workshop will introduce students to a variety of printmaking techniques, including Gelli printing, mono printing and screen printing, with plenty of opportunity to experiment and create their own work.

A first look inside Truro School's new Music Centre has been unveiled as the landmark development enters its final stages of internal fit-out.

The purpose-built facility, one of the most significant recent investments in music education and cultural infrastructure in Cornwall, brings together rehearsal, teaching, recording and performance spaces under one roof. Alongside the refurbishment of the school's historic Assembly Hall, the project creates a major new destination for music, education and events in the county.

Designed to support musicians of all ages and abilities, the new Music Centre includes purpose-built rehearsal rooms for ensembles and orchestras, an expanded range of specialist practice rooms, a fully soundproofed rehearsal studio for rock, jazz and percussion groups, dedicated electronic music production and recording facilities, teaching classrooms and flexible collaborative spaces.

The ground-floor performance space has been designed with a dedicated reception and foyer, allowing it to host rehearsals, recitals and intimate performances while also supporting community partnerships throughout the year.

Andy Johnson, Head of Truro School, said:

*"Seeing the spaces come to life is incredibly exciting for everyone involved in the project. We are immensely proud that this development will benefit not only Truro School pupils, but also the wider Cornwall community through partnerships, performances and shared musical experiences for generations to come."*

The Music Centre has been developed in partnership with Cornwall Music Service Trust and with the support of the Roseland Music Society, reflecting a shared ambition to strengthen music education and widen access to creative opportunities across Cornwall.

Alongside its educational purpose, the development also significantly enhances the school's ability to host cultural and business events.

The refurbished Assembly Hall provides **a** flexible venue with seating for 798 guests and a maximum capacity of 900 people. Designed as a multi-purpose space, it is capable of accommodating theatre productions, concerts, conferences, exhibitions, trade shows, awards evenings and a wide range of public and corporate events. Since opening, the venue has already welcomed a number of events, providing an early glimpse of its potential as one of Cornwall's leading spaces for large-scale gatherings.

Its scale places it among the larger indoor venues in Cornwall, offering organisations an additional option for conferences, performances and large gatherings in Truro.

It was a pleasure to host The All Seasons and Acappella Sound for a fantastic evening of live music in our brand-new Music Centre.

Guests were among the first to experience this impressive new venue on the Truro School campus, enjoying an evening filled with outstanding performances, incredible harmonies and the timeless music of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons. From the very first song, the atmosphere was electric, with many audience members up on their feet dancing and singing along to the much-loved classics.

A special thank you to Acappella Sound for opening the evening with a wonderful performance, setting the tone for a memorable night of entertainment.

It was wonderful to see our new Music Centre come alive with music and laughter, and we look forward to welcoming many more performers and audiences through its doors in the months and years ahead.
