Ever wondered how your interview process compares with your competitors’?
Not the version in your recruitment handbook, or how you think it is.
The actual, real candidate experience and how that compares to other real employers.
With 35 years in recruitment, I have seen every type of process you probably care to mention. From same-day hiring to several long months of strung-out interviews (we didn’t continue working with this company as we got nowhere). From psychometric testing, targeted cover letters, tests, video reels, hands-on real-time problem-solving. Onsite, offsite, hotels, telephone calls, etc. The list of styles has been endless.
A few questions worth asking:
· Is your process too long — Do you want to hire a person or cast the next James Bond?
· Is AI taking too much control?
· Are you waiting to see too many candidates before making a decision? What does “just one more CV” actually do if you like candidates already interviewed?
· How quickly do you review a CV and get back with a decision — hours, days, or when someone finally remembers?
· Are you expecting too much? A realistic match for the role, or a unicorn?
· Could the process itself be putting people off before you get to the offer?
· Do you provide adequate feedback?
It’s worth asking: Is your interview process helping you win people over — or actually letting you down?
If your answer is, “Our process is great” – you probably do need to call me.
