Most businesses assume they’re compliant… until someone actually checks 👀

Last week we carried out a full fire safety and H&S check for a local business, not just ticking boxes but making sure everything is clear, usable, and ready if it’s ever needed. ✅

What we covered:

• Fire action signage installed and visible
• Fire exits clearly marked and kept accessible
• First aid points easy to locate
• Equipment and safety checks reviewed

We also went through their maintenance and safety check systems, tightening them up so they’re simple, clear, and actually used, not just sitting in a folder gathering dust.

Having it written down is one thing, actually knowing what to do is another.

🚨 This was found today at a customer’s site 🚨

This is a CO₂ fire extinguisher that has been dropped, causing the head and operating mechanism to come away. A 2kg CO₂ extinguisher is stored at around 55–60 bar of pressure! 💥

With the head no longer protected, there is nothing preventing something small from striking the valve, or someone accidentally pressing it, which could cause a sudden discharge. At this pressure, that presents a very serious risk of injury ⚠️

Fire extinguishers are often treated as an afterthought because they “just sit there”, but they are still pressurised vessels and must be kept in safe condition.

Following the recent incident in Switzerland, we’ve seen more businesses asking us to check their extinguishers are safe, compliant, and fit for purpose.

If you’re unsure when yours were last checked, it may be time to have them looked at.
