Today is Merchant Navy Day, celebrated annually on 3 September as a way to highlight the role played by merchant seafarers, past, present and future.

By flying the Red Ensign, the symbol of the Merchant Navy, we can all express our deep gratitude to those that keep trade moving around the globe.

Trinity House is proud to fly a modified Red Ensign from its properties and ships and has been committed to sponsoring merchant seafaring cadets for centuries.

Trinity House has awarded a contract to leading international shipbuilder VARD for the design and construction of two new multi-functional vessels, marking a major milestone in the organisation's Future Afloat fleet renewal programme.

Trinity House Engineer Cadet Matt Kipping, and Deck Cadet James Phillips feature in the announcement video below.

Great to meet up with Crystal Cruises Deck Officer Cadet Henry Hartley onboard Crystal Serenity in Southampton earlier today.
This is Henry’s first ship appointment during his cadetship, having joined the vessel in Civitavecchia in May. It was fantastic to hear about his experiences and progress so far.
A big thank you to the Vice Captain, Chief Officer, and all the crew we met today for their warm welcome and for the support they provide to Henry and the other cadets as they complete their training.
