At The WineBarn we share a common passion – to find and import the very best quality modern German wines to the UK trade and consumer market. Our MD, Iris Ellmann, is German by birth and is an acknowledged expert in this field. She loves nothing better than to be in Germany researching and finding exciting new producers to bring to the UK. This dedication to German wines was recognised in 2013 when The Riesling Fellowship awarded Iris the honour
of being selected as one of the UK’s first Fellows, alongside industry greats such as Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. When presenting the award, the Fellowship commented, “Iris has done much to change the face of the UK wine list for the better.”

The W**eBarn are pleased to be supplying w**es toRestaurant Pine - a MICHELIN Guide star and a Michelin Green star restaurant - which offers an intimate setting within the sloping Northumberland landscape. The restaurant invites you to enjoy the generous tasting menu using ingredients foraged from the Northumberland countryside or grown within their onsite kitchen garden, which you can watch being prepared by their team of dedicated chefs in their bespoke open kitchen
The restaurant is managed by Vanessa Stoltz, who is also their Head Sommelier. Vanessa was raised in the historical region of Alsace in France. Bordering Germany and Switzerland, it was within this melting pot of culture that she discovered her true love for w**e. As such, she selected two of Germany's finest Spätburgunder - the country's answer to Pinot Noir.
Vanessa selected Weingut Bercher's 2021 Burkheimer Spätburgunder Village Pinot Noir is a juicy, full-bodied dry ruby red. It has spicy sweet aromas of dark chocolate, orange and figs, complimented by a smooth, filigree acidity on the palate.
She also selected Weingut Friedrich Becker's 2019 Schweigener Spätburgunder QbA dry red w**e, with its aromas of blackberries, to***co, spices and vanilla notes. On the palate it is dense and elegant, with good length and structure.

🍂 Our top w**e for October is Weingut K F Groebe's 2025 Riesling 1763.
Refreshing and elegant, this classic Rheinhessen Riesling's intense fruit flavours create an off-dry w**e, that is not quite Spätlese level.
The Riesling grapes were grown on 20 years old vines in their Aulerde vineyard, which is classified as VDP.Die Prädikatsweingüter Grosse Lage (Grand Cru) - the highest classification of quality for German vineyards.
The w**e's name recalls the year (1763) the w**ery was founded. The centuries-old family 8-hectare estate is run by husband and wife team, Fritz & Manuela. The couple describe their w**es as ‘German w**es with character’, take the upmost pride in their craft and use only sustainable viticulture and traditional production methods.

Following in the footsteps (or pawsteps) of Blu, our Head of Morale, Charlie joins us as our Barketing Apprentice currently mastering the basics of social sniffing, chasing engagement, and lying down on the keyboard at key moments. Where Blu keeps spirits high in the office, Charlie's remit stretches to customer happiness - so expect his face on your feed.
Charlie comes to us from Cyprus with the help of Cuddle Play Rescue, Saving Souls Animal Rescue and You Are Not Alone Foundation charities, who we can't thank enough for their help and support. 🙏
They've all been so easy to work with and provide a heartfelt service, whilst saving the lives of stray dogs.

What a fantastic time at The CollectEve trade w**e tasting! 🍷
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us at the event at The Studio in Wild by Tart, Eccleston Yards, on Monday.🙏
We were delighted to welcome sommeliers, w**e directors, food & beverage managers, merchants and other passionate w**e professionals from across the industry to this lively event.
The tasting brought together five specialist, female-founded importers - The W**eBarn, Okanagan Roots W**e, Special Cases, Vin de Vie and Vinos Latinos - showcasing an incredible selection of over 100 w**es from Germany, Canada, France, Italy and South America.
It was a wonderful opportunity to taste exceptional w**e and share conversations with fellow w**e professionals. Across the tasting, there was a real shared enthusiasm for artisan producers, sustainability viticulture and w**es that truly express their terroir.

🍷🥂🍾 A last minute reminder of The CollectEve's trade w**e tasting event this Monday.
The CollectEve- a female-founded collective of specialist w**e importers (including The W**eBarn) - is at The Studio in Wild by Tart, 3-4 Eccleston Yards, London SW1W 9AZ this Monday, from 10am - 4pm.
This tasting is the result of years of hard work, collaboration, enthusiasm and a shared love of exceptional w**e. Five specialist importers will be coming together to showcase the incredible producers they work with across Canada, France, Germany, Italy & South America. Expect 100+ exciting w**es, with a shared focus on sustainability, thoughtful farming and w**es that really speak of their place. This year’s CollectEve are Okanagan Roots, Special Cases Ltd, The W**eBarn, Vin de Vie and Vinos Latinos. The tasting is for w**e trade professionals and the w**e & drinks media. And while it’s a celebration of the brilliant women helping to shape and lead the w**e trade, all w**e professionals are very welcome.

🍷🍇 September W**e of the Month 🍇🍷
Weingut Meyer-Näkel's 2023 Dernauer Hardtberg Spätburgunder Premier Cru dry red w**e. This Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) has a full bodied elegance and cool minerality. It's unique profile is reflective of the Ahr region's terroir, with a fresh acidity and certain saltiness.
The sustainably managed Dernauer Hardtberg vineyard is characterised by steep, south facing slopes. Rising to 250 metres above sea level, the name "Hardt" refers to a hilltop or ridge. The site, in the Dernau valley basin, has heat retaining slate-rich soil that creates an almost Mediterranean microclimate. This means that the narrow valley heats up quickly, providing an ideal habitat for the vines to flourish.
This fifth-generation family w**ery is run by sisters Meike and Dörte Näkel (pictured), and is a member of the VDP.Die Prädikatsweingüter - an association of the country's most prestigious w**e producers.
Meyer-Näkel w**es sell out very quickly, so with limited stock available, this is a rare opportunity to get your hands on a bottle of one of their most popular Spätburgunders.
