Youth Empowerment and Africa's Development

A young person completing a training programme is an important milestone, but it is not necessarily the final outcome. A successfully empowered youth programme should be able to positively answer these four questions;
- Did the participant find employment?
- Did they start or grow a business?
- Did their income change?
- Did they acquire skills that employers actually value?
For youth programmes to demonstrate meaningful results, measurement needs to follow the participant beyond the classroom.

Beyond the numbers or data online, in-person visits and due diligence save funding organisations from a negative return on investment.
Numbers can tell us how many businesses were created, how many farmers adopted a technology, or how many young people completed a training programme. But numbers do not always tell us why something happened, and often do not capture stakeholders' lived experiences.

This is a process that should not be undermined.

The Impact Question....

Every organisation's program, at the beginning and end, asks a simple but important question: What is the impact of this project?
You see, a project can reach 10,000 people and still fail to create a meaningful impact. Reach tells us how many people encountered an intervention, while impact asks what actually changed as a result and whether that change is likely to last.
Remember this distinction to always achieve an impactful project.

Technology does not replace farming wisdom; rather, it amplifies it.

It is meant to complement farmers’ traditional wisdom, not to exploit the land through fast, chemical-induced solutions that will eventually harm the land rather than protect it.

The best agri-tech we have seen starts by addressing key land challenges and providing apt solutions—not by overriding farmers’ knowledge or exploiting the land.
