Snapshots from the team at Te Muna - there have been some beautifully clear winter days recently, with some very crisp mornings.

Pruning is underway, and like our Gimblett Gravels vineyard, our team has been incorporating soft pruning techniques tailored to this site, its unique conditions and terroir.

The results speak for themselves - Chief Winemaker Ben Tombs has noted the 2026 vintage as potentially one of the best harvests he has seen for Sauvignon Blanc. We look forward to tasting this in the months to come.

Pruning is arguably one of the most critical moments in our viticulture calendar, where the care we invest directly shapes the health and longevity of our vines for years to come.

Over the past four years, we've been refining our approach through a centuries-old soft pruning technique, guided by specialist consultants Simonit & Sirch, tailored to our specific Estate vineyards, soils and terroir. Working with the same dedicated pruning teams each season, trained in these methods - is proving both more precise and more efficient, empowering our people to make informed decisions with greater confidence.

The results speak for themselves. Vintage 2026 saw notably more even budburst and shoot growth, a clear testament to softer pruning and the stronger sap flow it encourages. With the stewardship of our 1,000-year family trust in mind, every decision is made not just for the next vintage, but for generations to come.

The 2024 vintage was one to remember, and in the words of , "if one vintage could make the case for drinking Hawke's Bay Chardonnay, 2024 would be it."

Our Kidnappers Chardonnay has a wonderful freshness and natural acidity with a moreish salinity, characteristic of its coastal site. Recently awarded 95 points by Emma Jenkins: "...great finesse with good layers and length, finishing with an attractive chalkiness."

And with two further excellent vintages following immediately on its heels, there's never been a better time to be paying attention to Hawke's Bay Chardonnay.

Recently awarded 95 points from (Halliday ) and 94 points from .suckling, our 2024 Gimblett Gravels Syrah is truly coming into its own.

Hawke’s Bay is renowned for this varietal, producing wines of aromatic intensity and vibrant flavour, and this release captures the essence of this renowned style. Opening with dark plum, it unfolds into rich savoury notes, sweet baking spice, a lift of white pepper and dried florals.

From an iconic season now gaining momentum, it’s a compelling expression of place. As we head into the cooler months in New Zealand, this is a delicious drop to enjoy nestled by the fire, or alongside hearty winter fare.

Our Prestige Collection wines represent the pinnacle of our terroir and winemaking - the very essence of why we exist.

These icon wines are meticulously crafted from select blocks of our single vineyard estates in Hawke’s Bay and Martinborough. With limited bottles produced each year, these sought-after wines are allocated each vintage.

Intensively hand-managed, our Prestige red varietals are guided by hand 13-14 times across the season. Aroha, our iconic Pinot Noir, receives around 15 passes -from pruning through to the final touch at the sorting table.

Les Beaux Cailloux, Chardonnay, from the stony soils of the Gimblett Gravels, is shaped with equal precision, with 11–12 meticulous visits by hand.

Each of these iconic wines are layered with incredible complexity - they embody all the critical decision-making, the stories, the joy and laughter of our dedicated team in every glass.

It feels right to celebrate these two women on Mother’s Day, who have shown us that not every great idea starts in the boardroom. A love of incredible hospitality runs deep in the Peabody family. Thirty years ago over dinner, Mary and Mary-Jeanne Peabody found themselves circling a slightly romantic notion of creating a world-class winery. A few wines in, it didn’t feel so far-fetched, and Terry was convinced.

That idea has certainly endured, and continues to evolve, alongside Mary and MJ’s shared palate, incredible generosity, and gift for bringing people together over great food and wine.

Impeccably stylish, warm and humble, Mary and MJ are inspiring women that we are ever so proud to look up to.
