Black Barn Vineyards

Black Barn Vineyards Vineyards. Luxury Retreats. Bistro. Weddings. Ampitheatre & Summer Grower's Market. Our award winning whites include Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
(1427)

We are a boutique vineyard just five minutes from the Village of Havelock North in Hawke's Bay Wine Country. Our focus is on premium Bordeaux styled red varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. All our wines are Estate Grown and the fruit is hand picked. With just over 25 acres many of our wines are available only through the cellar door and this website. Our elevated north

facing site on the lower slopes of the Te Mata hills is not only an excellent location for grape growing it also provides us with stunning views, a warm sheltered micro-climate and a perfect situation for the visitor to spend an hour or two, a night or two or even a week or two. You can taste our wines, have lunch at the Bistro, a Summer Saturday morning at the Grower's Market and art gallery, an evening at a concert in the amphitheatre or all of the above by staying in one of our properties. Because we are not large, we are very keen on building a relationship with the person who consumes our wine. This is why we encourage people into Hawkes Bay and into our vineyard. While a virtual visit is OK, nothing can replace the experience of actually being here. We are open seven days and we welcome a call or a visit some time soon.

Well, that was a pretty special night.

Last night at the Great W**e Capitals Best Of W**e Tourism Awards, we were incredibly proud to take home three of the seven awards for Art & Culture, Accommodation and Architecture & Landscape.

The Architecture & Landscape award feels particularly special. The relationship between the buildings, the land and the landscape has been part of the Black Barn story from the very beginning. To have that thinking understood and recognised by the judges is something we’re very proud of.

It’s a privilege to be part of Hawke’s Bay and to see our region recognised as a Great W**e Capital, alongside the best w**e regions of the world.

And now, all three awards head to the Best Of W**e Tourism Awards Gala Dinner next month, when Hawke’s Bay plays host to the Great W**e Capitals conference.

A very proud moment for all of us at Black Barn.

A little something for Dad.

Choose any six Black Barn w**es, one variety or mix your own case, and we’ll add a Black Barn cap with our compliments.

Order online by 6 September, add a note and pick his cap in Black Barn Tan or Black. Or give our Cellar Door team a call and we’ll take care of the rest.

Not sure what he’d choose? A Black Barn Gift Voucher leaves that decision to Dad.

And if the best present is getting everyone together, join us for lunch or dinner at the Bistro.

Once again, Black Barn Bistro has been awarded a Cuisine Hat.

It's a title we've been proud to hold for several years now, but it's never something we'll take for granted.

New Zealand is full of exceptional restaurants, chefs and hospitality people doing remarkable things. To have the Bistro recognised among them by the Cuisine Good Food Awards means a great deal to us.

It was also a very good night for Hawke's Bay. We're proud to be part of a region with such a strong food and w**e culture, and to stand alongside so many people doing brilliant work here.

Most of all, this belongs to the people who make it happen. Regnar, Pablo and the entire Bistro team, in the kitchen, on the floor and behind the scenes.

Another hat. Still just as proud.

Thank you, team. And thank you, Cuisine.

The best thing about our Winter Offer isn't what you save. It's the time you gain.

Time has become one of life's greatest luxuries. This winter, we're giving you a little more of it.

It's the chance to have a slow breakfast instead of rushing out the door. Another walk through the valley. A long lunch at the Bistro. Another bottle of Hawke's Bay w**e shared around the table. Time to finally start that book you've been meaning to read.

Weekends have a habit of disappearing too quickly. There's always the feeling that you need to make the most of every moment. Four nights changes that. Suddenly there's no pressure to fit everything in. You can enjoy a slow morning, spend an afternoon doing very little, and still have tomorrow to look forward to.

That's why we love winter in Hawke's Bay. The crowds are smaller, the fire is crackling, the mornings are crisp, and there's room to slow down. An extra day might mean another coffee overlooking the vines, another leisurely lunch, another evening gathered around the fire, or simply the chance to wake up knowing you don't have to head home just yet.

Our Winter Offer gives you Stay 4, Pay 3 or Stay 7, Pay 5, along with a complimentary bottle of Black Barn red w**e on arrival and 10% off your Bistro bill during your stay.

Because sometimes the greatest luxury is simply having more time.

Some wedding venues arrive with a personality already attached.

The Riverside Marquee site was designed a little differently.

The Tuki Tuki River runs alongside it. Te Mata Peak sits in the distance. Beyond that, the space is intentionally open to interpretation.

Kimberley and Justin imagined a canopy of soft plumes for the ceremony, long tables beneath the marquee and a celebration that felt entirely their own.

The result felt effortless.

Not because weddings are effortless, anyone who has planned one knows otherwise, but because good planning, good people and the right setting have a way of making everything feel easy on the day.

Thank you for trusting Black Barn with such an important day.

Congratulations Kimberley and Justin.

And thank you for your very kind words afterwards:

"Everything ran so smoothly, which allowed us (and our families) to fully relax and enjoy the celebration."

Those are exactly the kinds of days we hope to help create.

Why do some weekends become annual traditions?

It's rarely because somebody sat down and decided they should.

More often, it starts by accident. A birthday one year. A catch-up the next. Then before anyone quite notices, the same group is checking dates twelve months ahead.

The same rooms get claimed. Someone always arrives first. Someone is always running late.

The details change, but the ritual remains surprisingly intact.

Perhaps that's because traditions aren't really built around activities. They're built around people. Around knowing there will be a moment each year when everyone ends up in the same place again.

The older we get, the more impressive it becomes when everyone manages to be in the same place at the same time.

Which only makes those recurring weekends feel more valuable.

Not because they're extraordinary.

Because they're dependable.

And in a world where almost everything changes, there's something comforting about knowing next year's conversation has already started.

The best winter afternoons usually start with the same thought:

“We’ll just sit here for a minute.”

A few hours later, not much has changed.

And in a world that seems determined to keep everyone busy, that can feel surprisingly luxurious.

Not every couple dreams of a wedding with 120 guests.

For some, the dream is much smaller.

A few people they couldn’t imagine doing it without.

A beautiful place. A long lunch afterwards. And enough space to actually remember the day.

Sometimes the most meaningful celebrations are the ones that leave everything unnecessary behind.

If that sounds a little like your idea of a wedding day, you’ll find more about Black Barn Elopements via the link in our bio.
