Last May 18, leadership from the Game Developers Association of the Philippines (GDAP) held a highly productive courtesy call with Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Assistant Secretary Nylah Bautista and the Philippine Creative Industries Development Council (PCIDC) Secretariat, led by Deputy Executive Director Paolo Ramos.

During the meeting, GDAP President Ria Lu presented the association's key priority areas. The discussion focused on critical avenues where GDAP seeks the support and resources of the DTI—ranging from capacity building and market access to institutional funding and IP promotion.

Crucially, these priority areas are designed to align seamlessly with the broader initiatives of the PCIDC. This synergy is stronger than ever now that GDAP Board Member James Ronald Lo serves as the PCIDC Private Sector Representative for the Digital Interactive Domain. With this unified front, we are bridging the gap between grassroots developer needs and national economic strategies.

On May 20, 2026, during the House Committee on Information and Communications Technology's briefing on "𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐏𝐎 𝐉𝐨𝐛𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐈," AAP proposed reframing the discussion to "𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐏𝐎 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬" instead, emphasizing that Filipino workers should not be left to navigate these uncertain times on their own. As 𝐀𝐀𝐏 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞 𝐀𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐨𝐧 passionately stated, it should not be the burden of displaced workers to find the next opportunity by themselves, but for government to ensure that its systems work to prepare its workforce before the industries are disrupted.

AAP also highlighted that there are also foundations for this transition already built and underway with DepEd, TESDA, CHED, the Private Sector Jobs and Skills Corporation (PCORP), and other industry groups through initiatives such as the 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 & 𝐀𝐈, the 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐈 𝐔𝐩𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐨𝐚𝐝𝐦𝐚𝐩, 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞-𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 (𝐄𝐁𝐄𝐓), and 𝐥𝐚𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐈 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝐓𝐕𝐄𝐓 𝐭𝐨 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. Our Filipino workers deserve concrete action, coordinated national strategy, and long-term investment in their future. Not more panel discussions, motherhood statements, nor photos with powerful people. 𝐖𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲.
