GROUNDWATER INVESTIGATION and RESISTIVITY SURVEY
(Barangay Salitran, Dasmarinas City, Cavite)

The proposed residential area is located in the northeastern slopes of โ€œTagaytay Highlands" in the southeastern border of Dasmarinas River in eastern Cavite. The physiographic control of the area is mainly derived from the occurrence and deposition of thick pyroclastic rock sequence (Tuff) on slopes of Northeast Cavite from a series and/or cyclic eruptions of Taal Volcano in the past.

Given the ensuing challenge of water supply demands from the increasing needs of the residents from the continuing extraction of groundwater through wells, it is also aimed to assess the sustainability of the available groundwater resources of the study area. The hydrogeological investigation and geophysical exploration by resistivity survey conducted are geared
ared towards establishing the groundwater situation of the area and immediate surroundings within the groundwater basin where the subject property is situated.

For the Survey Area in the western slopes of Cabuyao City, the prospect of finding potential source of groundwater was initiated with the conduct of resistivity survey. The target area for investigation is located within the narrow drainage divide between two (2) northern tributaries of San Cristobal River towards the slopes of "Tagaytay Highlands" in the northwestern border of Cabuyao City. The area is geographically situated within the pyroclastic (Tuff) slopes of the "Tagaytay Highlands" from a series and/or cyclic eruptions of Taal Volcano and Mt. Makiling in the past.

The resistivity sounding stations on the identified locations were made to explore the depth and thickness of the potential aquifer within the marginal deposits of the recent Alluvium and other pyroclastic rock units.

Wells drilled in the study area catchment of Naguilian municipality are committed largely for domestic water supply needs of most of the residents therein. In some instances, water supply needs of other private users, industrial users and prospective real estate land owners rely on wells drilled on low rolling hills and moderate slopes at varying elevations between 25 and 40 meters above MSL. Where shallow groundwater is already available at depth of less than 10.00 meters (water table and/or unconfined aquifer) below ground level, wells are usually equipped with hand pumps to supplement individual household and domestic water consumptions. The hydrogeological properties/characteristics of an aquifer must be estimated based on available well logs, water level records and Specific Capacity (SC) data. High SC usually indicates high transmissivity (T) figures and vice-versa and is directly reflected of an excellent aquifer potential.

RESISTIVITY SURVEY and GROUNDWATER INVESTIGATION in Panitan, Capiz

The main objective of the geophysical exploration by resistivity survey is confined within the structure of finding the feasibility of exploring new source for groundwater abstraction in the identified property in Barangay Timpas, Panitan within the Lower Panay River Basin and adjoining river systems under the current groundwater condition, environment for development, monitoring and utilization. It is further aimed at determining the groundwater potential of the survey area for the proper appropriation of current and future groundwater utilization and to give general indications for the locations of the most promising areas for the exploration/exploitation of drilling of well/s.

HYDROGEOLOGICAL INVESTIGATION and RESISTIVITY SURVEY

The main objective of the hydrogeological investigation and resistivity survey of the proposed project is confined within the structure of finding the feasibility of establishing the hydrogeological baseline of the area and its immediate environment.

a) To determine the groundwater baseline, occurrence and indicative movement within the catchment area of the proposed project and immediate surrounding.

b) To determine and define the thickness and depth of potential aquifers/aquifer system within the catchment basin where the proposed project would be built. To determine the groundwater potential of the study area for the proper appropriation of current and future groundwater utilization.

c) To identify and determine the present groundwater utilization of the study area and to identify the corresponding impacts of the project to this natural resource.

d) To determine the threat and risk of groundwater contamination within the identified study/impact areas.

As part of the engineering measures that shall be adopted in designing the proposed project, due importance of engineering geology and geo-hazard potentials shall also be dealt with. From the analysis and interpretation on existing hydrogeological data and actual field investigation and survey, the prevailing hydrogeology of the proposed project and identified lower reach of the river system and flood plains of the general area was evaluated and determined.
