Today, we raise a glass to Port. 🍷 On 10 September, we celebrate Port Wine Day - marking the creation of the Douro Demarcated Region in 1756 by the Marquis of Pombal, the world’s first legally regulated and demarcated wine region.⁠

We’re welcoming back Chef Anderson Souza (), known for blending Portuguese ingredients with Brazilian techniques and a hint of global spice, creating dishes with real personality. And throughout the afternoon, groove to the melodies of DJ , who’ll be setting the perfect soundtrack for an afternoon overlooking Porto’s iconic skyline. 😉🎶⁠

At Churchill’s, our Port is still foot-trodden in the granite lagares from 1852 at Quinta da Gricha, just as it has been for generations before us. It’s hard work. It’s a tradition. And it’s still one of the most important moments of our harvest. 🍷⁠

The forklift has done its job for the day, the grapes are in the lagar, ready for some good old-fashioned foot treading, and our team has wisely disappeared for a bit to get some well-deserved rest.⁠

No people. No fuss. Just a quiet Quinta, full lagares and that rather good September light. Back at it soon. 💪⁠

There’s nothing quite like seeing the first lagares full. 🍇👣 After months of waiting, the grapes are finally in our historic granite lagares at Quinta da Gricha. Fermentation is underway, and Gricha has officially entered full harvest mode. And what a treading team we have! 👣🍇⁠

The first red grapes are in. 🍇 After starting with the whites, we’ve now begun picking the red grapes for our Douro wines. The team is getting busier by the day, with grapes arriving from the vineyards and the 2026 harvest slowly finding its rhythm.🍷⁠

This Saturday, to celebrate the start of the harvest season, the Douro is coming to the garden. 🌿🍷

For this special edition of Lodge Pops, we’re welcoming Chef Rosário from Toca da Raposa Restaurant, bringing traditional Douro flavours to the table with a menu inspired by the region and featuring ingredients from our own Quinta da Gricha.

Think dishes rooted in Douro tradition, chilled Churchill’s wines, Port cocktails, and Rock & Roll playing in the background. The kind of Saturday that starts with lunch and somehow turns into a whole afternoon.

👉 Lunch from 12:30 p.m. until it’s all gone. Come early, grab a table (or a blanket), bring your people, and settle in. See you in the garden!
