COLD CASE IDENTIFIED: HELP US LEARN MORE ABOUT PATRICIA DIANA HUNT FIELDING
After more than 35 years, a woman whose remains were discovered near Ojai has finally been identified. But many questions remain.
On July 23, 1990, partial human remains were discovered near Highway 33 and Creek Road in the unincorporated area of Ojai. Despite investigative efforts over the years, her identity remained unknown.
In February 2025, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Unit and the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office partnered with Othram to pursue advanced DNA testing and forensic genetic genealogy. Through these efforts, detectives developed investigative leads, located a potential family connection, and obtained a family reference sample. The DNA comparison ultimately led to a positive identification.
The woman was identified as Patricia Diana Hunt Fielding, born October 15, 1933, in Kern County, California. Patricia was a mother of four children.
While her identity is now known, much about Patricia’s life and the circumstances surrounding her death remains a mystery. Investigators are hoping that sharing her name will help bring forward information about her life, where she was before her remains were discovered, and what happened to her.
