🪰 DRAIN FLIES! Tiny Flies, BIG Problems! 🪰
Ever notice those tiny, fuzzy, moth-like flies hanging around your sinks, floor drains, bathrooms, or utility rooms? You might have a DRAIN FLY INFESTATION!

🪰 They're terrible flyers! Unlike houseflies, drain flies are weak flyers. They tend to make short, hopping flights and spend much of their time resting on walls near their breeding sites.
🥚 They're breeding right under your nose! Female drain flies can lay dozens of eggs in the slimy organic buildup found inside drains, pipes, and other wet areas.
⏰ They multiply FAST! Under favorable conditions, drain flies can complete their life cycle in as little as 1–3 weeks, allowing small problems to turn into major infestations.
🦠 They LOVE FILTH! Their larvae feed on bacteria, fungi, and decomposing organic material found in the gelatinous slime inside drains.
🚿 They're not always coming from your sink! Floor drains, sump pits, sewage leaks, condensate lines, and other hidden moisture sources can provide perfect breeding conditions.
🛠️ SO HOW DO YOU GET RID OF THEM?
✅ Find the source! Identifying where they're breeding is the MOST important step.
✅ Remove the slime! Physically scrub and clean drain walls to remove the organic buildup where larvae develop.
✅ Use appropriate drain cleaners! Enzyme or microbial drain maintenance products can help break down organic material. Follow product directions.
✅ Fix moisture problems! Repair leaks, address standing water, and eliminate hidden breeding areas.
✅ Professional pest control! In stubborn infestations, professional inspections and targeted treatments can help identify hidden breeding sources and control adult flies.

🚨 ATTENTION MINNESOTA — HAS ANYONE SEEN STINK BUGS THIS FALL? 🪲
We want to hear from you!
Stink bugs aren't something we commonly run into around Central Minnesota, but local reports—including this one sent to us by a customer—suggest they’re on the move this fall.
Like Asian lady beetles and boxelder bugs, stink bugs look for protected areas as temperatures drop. That can mean working their way into homes, cabins, garages and other structures through small cracks and gaps.
🪲 And yes…they really do stink! When threatened or crushed, stink bugs can release a strong odor as a defense mechanism.

🪳 PEST CARD #02 — GERMAN COCKROACH: THE KITCHEN INVADER
Small, fast, sneaky—and one of the toughest pests to eliminate once established. German cockroaches are built for survival, and a few hitchhikers can turn into a serious infestation surprisingly quickly.
Here are some interesting German cockroach facts:
🥚 A female carries an egg case containing around 30–40 eggs, and she keeps it with her until shortly before they hatch.
🚀 Under favorable conditions, German cockroaches can go from egg to reproducing adult in only a few months, allowing populations to explode.
🌙 They’re primarily nocturnal. If you're regularly seeing them during the daytime, it can be a sign of a larger population or crowded hiding areas.
🔥 They love warm, humid areas close to food and water—especially behind refrigerators, dishwashers, stoves, sinks and commercial kitchen equipment.
📦 They’re excellent hitchhikers and can be introduced in cardboard boxes, grocery items, appliances, deliveries and personal belongings.
🏢 In apartments and other multi-unit buildings, they can move between units through wall voids, plumbing penetrations and other openings.
🧬 German cockroaches are famous for developing insecticide resistance, which is one reason repeatedly spraying the same product isn't necessarily an effective control program.
💩 They can contaminate food and food-contact areas, and cockroach debris and f***l material can contribute to indoor allergens.
👀 Their small size lets them hide in cracks and crevices that are easy to overlook during a casual inspection.

Your yard could be providing rodents with the two things they need most: FOOD and SHELTER.
As Minnesota temperatures cool, mice and other rodents start looking for dependable places to eat, hide, nest, and eventually move indoors.
🍎 FOOD SOURCES: Bird feeders and spilled seed, pet food, grill grease and scraps, gardens, fallen fruit and nuts, garbage, and compost.
🏠 HARBORAGE: Wood piles, stacked lumber, brush and leaf piles, overgrown vegetation, tall grass, clutter around sheds and garages, and items stored directly against the house.
The more food + hiding places available around your property, the more attractive it becomes to rodents. And once mice are comfortable living around the outside of your home, it doesn't take much of an opening for them to find their way inside.

🐝 WHY ARE THERE SO MANY WASPS RIGHT NOW?!
If it seems like yellowjackets, paper wasps, and hornets are EVERYWHERE in Minnesota right now—you’re not imagining it.
Late summer into early fall is when yellowjacket colonies reach their largest populations of the entire year. A nest that started with just one queen in spring can grow to thousands of wasps by late summer. �

And there’s another reason you’re suddenly seeing them around decks, garbage cans, pop cans, fruit and outdoor meals: their feeding behavior changes.
During much of the summer, workers hunt insects and spiders to feed developing larvae. As the colony winds down and fewer young are being produced, wasps become increasingly interested in sugary, carbohydrate-rich foods—ripe fruit, juices, pop and whatever happens to be on your picnic table. �

That combination means:
🐝 Colonies are at or near peak size
🍎 Workers are searching heavily for sugar and food
⚠️ Yellowjackets can become aggressive scavengers
🏠 Large nests that went unnoticed all summer are suddenly obvious
