Day 5 posting everyday until everyone on here knows how stinkin cool this event is.

Table Leader No. 5: Michael “Mike” Ciochetti

Sometimes Plan B becomes a whole lot bigger than Plan A.

For years, Mike Ciochetti’s life revolved around one thing: going fast.

He started racing in South Florida and eventually worked as a mechanic on Alan Kulwicki’s 1992 NASCAR Winston Cup championship team, one of the great underdog stories in NASCAR history.

Then Mike got behind the wheel himself.

Between 1996 and 1999, he competed in 41 ARCA Racing Series races, earned multiple top finishes and won the pole at Pocono Raceway with a qualifying lap over 163 mph.

In 1998, he even attempted to qualify for the Daytona 500.

By 1999, plans were developing for Mike to make the jump to NASCAR’s Winston Cup Series.

Then came Talladega.

A massive crash left him with a serious shoulder injury and multiple surgeries.

The racing career stopped.

But that’s where Mike’s story gets really interesting.

Mike was also a pilot. He had already purchased property in the North Georgia mountains with an idea for a private runway and estate.

After the crash, that idea became something much bigger.

Mike and his partners developed Heaven’s Landing, a private fly-in residential community outside Clayton, Georgia, centered around its own 5,062-foot concrete runway.

Think about that trajectory.

Race-car driver. NASCAR crew member. Daytona 500 attempt. Career-changing crash. Pilot. Real estate developer. Entrepreneur.

Mike didn’t simply recover from Plan A falling apart. He built an entirely different life.

That’s why we wanted him at All Access.

What do you do when the thing you spent years working toward suddenly disappears? How do you know when to rebuild the old dream or start a new one? What can failure make possible that success never would have?

On October 6, you get to ask Mike yourself. You get to sit at the table with him.

August Pub Club is getting a little weird. 🍻

We’re heading to Dssolvr on Tuesday, August 25 for drinks and whatever happens when a bunch of Asheville young professionals end up in the same room on a weeknight.

Come after work. Bring a friend. Don’t bring a friend. Stay for one drink or accidentally stay for three hours.

Your first drink is included thanks to our Pub Club Title Sponsor, Allen Stahl + Kilbourne.

And because Tuesdays at DSSOLVR are apparently built for Pub Club: $4 tacos + $4 core b**r pours all night. 🌮🍺

Tuesday, August 25
5:00-8:00 PM
DSSOLVR | Downtown Asheville

RSVP and we’ll see you there.

We’re inviting every candidate on the ballot in Asheville and Buncombe County to join us on August 20.

Each participating candidate will receive the same brief, timed opportunity to answer one question: “Why are you running, and what is the one thing you want Asheville and Buncombe County’s young professionals to remember about you when they head to the polls?”

Candidates will make brief introductions and then the room will open for attendees to meet candidates, ask questions and speak with them directly.

Young professionals who live here, work here, own businesses here, raise families here and vote here should be in the room. Showing up gives candidates the chance to meet their constituents face to face and gives you a better understanding of who is asking to represent you.

Thursday, August 20
5:30–7:30 PM
Location to be announced

Light snacks and drinks will be provided.

AYPROS is nonpartisan and does not endorse candidates or political parties. Every candidate on the ballot is being invited, and each participating candidate will receive equal time.

Thank you to our Government Relations Crew for putting this event on. Want to join the Government Relations Crew? Shoot us an email at [email protected] and we'll get you in touch with the crew and co-crew leader.

Local government decisions shape nearly every part of life in Asheville, from housing and transportation to economic development, public safety, parks, and the future of downtown.

Our Government Relations Crew returns in August to pick up where we left off and continue the conversation about the issues, decisions, and opportunities shaping Asheville and Buncombe County.

We will welcome Asheville City Councilor Maggie Ullman, discuss the Real Time Intelligence Center, share updates on the upcoming 828 Lead Candidate Meet & Greet, and cover other local government developments young professionals should have on their radar.

The crew is designed to help young professionals better understand local government, ask informed questions, hear directly from community leaders, and find practical ways to participate in the future of our community.

You do not need to have attended the first meeting or have any previous experience to join us. Come ready to listen, learn, ask questions, and take part in the conversation.

828 Lead graduates: Bring your binder, wear your pin if you have one, and come put what you learned into practice.
