Just saying, it's sooo much cooler when a small business bookkeeper (like yours truly) does it instead. 😉

Imagine you're busy serving clients, packing orders, hopping on Zoom calls, or finally taking a lunch break...

And then an email from me pops up saying your bookkeeping is done. ✨

Not only are your books up to date, but you also get a clear breakdown of what happened in your business last month:

👀 Where your money came from

👀 Where it went

👀 What trends I'm noticing

👀 Any red flags or wins worth paying attention to

Because bookkeeping isn't just about keeping the IRS happy.

It's about helping you understand your business so you can make smarter decisions and grow with confidence.

If you've been avoiding your numbers or feeling overwhelmed by bookkeeping, it might be time to hand it off to someone who genuinely enjoys this stuff.

Forget about looksmaxxing, we're all about money maxxing at CanAm Bookkeeping. 🤑

If I were a small business owner who wanted to keep as much of my hard-earned money as possible, here's what I'd do first ↓

1️⃣ Track every single expense.

Yeah, it's not groundbreaking advice, I get it...

But when you miss expenses, you miss out on write-offs. And fewer write-offs = higher taxes. Boo!

2️⃣ Be ~critical~ of your spending every month.

I'm not talking about a vague understanding of your total expenses.

I want you to actually sit down with last month's P&L and come up with an exact reason for why EVERY expense was necessary.

If you can't justify an expense, it's probably time to cut it.

3️⃣ I'd be booking a tax planning meeting with your tax accountant ASAP.

Taxes are one of the biggest expenses of our lifetime. The more you can optimize here, the better!

A good tax accountant doesn't just file your return—they help you make smarter decisions throughout the year so you're not scrambling come tax season.

And if you don't have a tax pro you love, ask around. Your bookkeeper, business owner friends, and local networking groups are often the best place to find someone trustworthy.

4️⃣ Know your numbers every month.

You can't improve what you don't measure.

Review your revenue, profit margins, and expenses regularly. The business owners who make the best financial decisions aren't guessing—they're using data.

Money maxxing isn't about being cheap.

It's about being intentional with every dollar that comes into (and leaves) your business.

Which of these are you already doing? 👇

Some of the extra ✨little✨ things I do as a small business bookkeeper:

→ Send monthly reports that actually make sense. I don't just hand over numbers—I highlight trends, celebrate wins, point out potential issues, and help you understand what your business is trying to tell you.

→ Provide your CPA with a clean, tax-ready bookkeeping package so tax season feels a lot less stressful.

→ Connect you with other service providers for small businesses that I personally trust, like CPAs, attorneys, coaches, and virtual assistants.

→ Actually know what's going on in your life and business. Recently, I connected a client with a local professional who solved a problem they'd been struggling with for months. Sometimes the most valuable part of working together has nothing to do with bookkeeping.

Because good bookkeeping isn't just about categorizing transactions.

It's about having someone in your corner who understands your business, notices the details, and wants to see you succeed. 🤍

HOT TAKE: It should be illegal to have a tax due date fall on a Monday! 🙃

If you clocked that quarterly taxes don't always follow a "quarterly" schedule, here's why ↓

Way back in the day, Tax Day used to be March 15th, so Congress counted three months out and set June 15th as the next estimated tax deadline. 📆

But when Tax Day got pushed back to April 15th (not complaining, btw), the June 15th deadline stayed the same.

Soooo, unfortunately, that's why your Q2 estimated taxes are due just two short months after you paid your April ones.

I don't make the rules; I just make sure you don't miss the deadlines! 🤷

It would be realllly nice if the IRS had a cute little decisions tree for what receipts a [your niche] needs to keep...

But, they actually don't give a *ton* of guidance on receipts.

A few things they're sticklers on:

The IRS wants you to keep receipts for all lodging (hotels, Airbnbs, etc) while on business travel.

For any purchases of $75 or more of other business travel, non-entertainment meals, gifts, or transportation? Keep those receipts, too.

Otherwise, the IRS wants records of the date, amount, payee, proof of payment, and business purpose of your purchases.

Account statements and good bookkeeping can help substantiate your small business expenses.

Feel a little overwhelmed handling employee benefits, overtime, tax filings, and all the other annoying little payroll things? 😅

I always talk about my monthly bookkeeping service... but my payroll add-on is one of my best-kept secrets!

When I handle payroll for small businesses, service-based businesses, and growing entrepreneurs, here's what you get:

→ review or setup of QuickBooks Payroll, Gusto, or ADP

→ regular payroll processing

→ a quick compliance check on documentation for employees + contractors

→ W-2 + 1099 preparation

→ payroll tax filing support and payroll reporting

And most importantly, no more waking up in the middle of the night panicking about whether you ran payroll in time for a holiday weekend! 😮‍💨

Instead, you can focus on running your business while knowing your team gets paid accurately and on time. 💸✨

The Claude prompt a SMALL BIZ bookkeeper doesn't want you to know... 🤫

Jk, I'm sharing this because I loovve that it gives me more time to support my clients, answer their questions, and help them feel confident about their finances.

SMALL BUSINESS, are you a Claude or ChatGPT user? Vote for your fave AI in my poll, I'm trying to see something! 🤔
