TBThursday! Lake Country Discovery Museumā€™s Grand Opening was 10 years ago and continues to provide historical information and artifacts. The master site plan model significantly offers an overall orientation of the whole area in a colorfully enhanced graphic representation. Tennessee National master site plan scale model and pedestal were fabricated in 2005 and still displayed in the onsite Information and Sales Center. Continuous updates have been done each year on the development scale model but during this visit the pedestal also got restoration attention.

The handrest is beautiful quarter sawn oak and has been daily ā€œhandledā€ over the decades. It was time to bring it back to the original finish! Each side was at different levels of being rested upon as well as sun exposure with the grime and oils from peopleā€™s hands heavily built up.
Consequently it required an extensive custom cleaning, scraping and stripping procedure to bring all the wood to an equal and quality finish. Then multiple coats of a hand applied clearcoat sealant were applied to effectively seal the oak for ongoing viewing of the model.
Future maintenance will include additional applications of the sealant to keep the wood in cleanable conditionā˜‘ļø

This was a significant undertaking to engage the public at a time that wasnā€™t ideal to be in downtown Atlanta. In the past few years we restored, repaired and upgraded the existing scale model for display at the CNN center.
