When hazardous weather strikes, preparation is paramount, and that’s what National Hurricane Preparedness Week is all about. We’re helping you get ready for hurricane season with our Hurricane Have-To list—four simple things you can do to keep yourself and your family safe this hurricane season:
1. Put together an emergency kit. This should include food, water, flashlights, a first-aid kit, batteries—everything you need to survive during or in the immediate aftermath of an emergency.
2. Make an emergency plan. Discuss with family, loved ones and those close to you what to do in the event of an emergency, where to go and how to get in contact with each other.
3. Secure reliable backup power. A home standby or portable generator can provide power through extended outages—giving you comfort, safety and peace of mind when the grid goes down.
4. Follow the U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) for storm updates, alerts and lists of hurricane evacuation areas.
Consult the National Weather Service for other ways you can prepare for hurricane season.
