We would like to thank our community for the generosity during this year's WHAS Crusade for Children fundraiser. 100% of these donations come back to the Bardstown/Nelson County community. Your donations help our schools and local citizens when their children experience medical emergencies. Unfortunately, we did not get to attend at the live unveiling at Nelson County EMS station as we were out on a fire. This year we collected $22,411. Here are the "In memory of" donations:

44 Auto Mart- Ron and Russ Mulvaney
Rita Jo Yates- Gary and Tracy Borland
Peggy Schlesinger-Janet Stitch
Judith Dennis- Tom Mobley

A big thank you to The American Legion Post who donated $10,000. Excellent work!

Thank you again to all that donated. It is truly heartwarming to see the outpouring of financial support for our community especially during these difficult economic times.

On 6/7/2026 at 13:40, the Bardstown Fire Department and Nelson County Fire & Rescue was dispatched by Nelson County Dispatch to the 700 block of Stoner Road for a report of a structure fire. NCFR command requested Northeast Nelson Fire Protection District for tanker support. When the first unit arrived on scene four minutes later, they found heavy fire on the back of the structure and heavy smoke emitting from the eaves of the roof. An aggressive interior fire attack was conducted by NCFR 801 and BFD L1 crew gaining control of the fire in the living space. When that crew exited, another crew made entry to try and gain control of the fire in the attic space. The fire was brought under control at 15:39. The heat and multiple void spaces in the attic area due to modifications and additions to the ceilings and roof hampered firefighting efforts. Multipe firefighters were treated on scene for heat exhaustion. A second alarm was struck which brought New Hope Volunteer Fire Department, Taylorsville-Spencer County Fire Protection District, and Bardstown Fire Department L2 to the scene. Crews were on scene until 6 pm. The homeowner sustained minor burn injuries to his hand. The cause of the fire is being investigated by NCFR 801. We would definitely like to thank Nelson County EMS for providing firefighters with fluids and checking their vitals.
