Mergers & Acquisitions is one of the most difficult sales professions. The profession requires comprehensive knowledge, experience, and skill to perform at a high level. This alone would make the task difficult for many. However, the sale frequently needs to be completed in an environment of confidentiality balancing the best interest objective of creating a robust, competitive marketplace which can enhance the market value achieved for a privately held company with the need to keep the potential transaction out of the public domain to mitigate the possibility of negative impacts in terms of customer, employee, and vendor retention. I was honored recently to be a guest of Pat Ennis (https://www.linkedin.com/in/pat-ennis-cexp-cap%C2%AE-cemc-25b4a111/) and Walter Deyhle (https://www.linkedin.com/in/walter-deyhle-cpa-abv-cff-maff-cepa-57386614/) on their ExitReadiness Podcast (https://youtu.be/iXarC1j4ujY?si=jAMqWB-59KUyjNid)/). The conversation focused on how and why to facilitate a business sale in an environment where information is held in strict confidence. IBA has successfully completed over 4400 transactions over the last 51 years employing best practices, including completing sales without the transaction becoming known in the public domain until the parties desired for that to occur.

IBA has been successfully representing owners of manufacturing companies in the sale of their businesses in Washington & Oregon since 1975. In support of our clients and to properly value privately held companies in this sector, considerable time, effort, and resources are spent at IBA...The Northwest's Premier Business Brokerage to understand trends and market dynamics for manufacturers in the region, nationally, and internationally. I thought I would share some data that recently was evaluated by IBA. Susan Spence, MBA, Chair of the Institute for Supply Management® (ISM®) Manufacturing Business Survey Committee, reported in her organization's May report the following “In May, U.S. manufacturing activity remained in expansion territory, growing at a faster pace compared to the month before. Of the five subindexes that make up the PMI®, the New Orders index indicated faster growth compared to the previous month, the Supplier Deliveries index stayed the same, the Production Index grew at a faster rate, and the Employment and Inventories indexes remained in contraction, though both improved." She continued in the report, "The 16 manufacturing industries reporting growth in May — listed in order — are: Printing & Related Support Activities; Textile Mills; Nonmetallic Mineral Products; Paper Products; Electrical Equipment, Appliances & Components; Plastics & Rubber Products; Primary Metals; Miscellaneous Manufacturing; Computer & Electronic Products; Furniture & Related Products; Machinery; Transportation Equipment; Petroleum & Coal Products; Chemical Products; Fabricated Metal Products; and Food, Beverage & To***co Products. The only industry reporting contraction in May is Wood Products." Additional detail can be found here: https://www.ismworld.org/supply-management-news-and-reports/reports/ism-pmi-reports/pmi/may/ If you are interested in selling a manufacturing company in 2026, 2027, or further into the future. IBA would welcome the opportunity to learn about your company, exit strategy objectives, and provide an overview of our client services. All conversations with IBA are held in strict confidence.

(Tempe, Arizona) — Economic activity in the manufacturing sector expanded in May for the fifth consecutive month, say the nation’s supply executives in the latest ISM® Manufacturing PMI® Report.
