Occasionally, a project lands in our laps that has us scratching our caps.

Yale’s Wu Tsai Institute contacted ARTfx with an unusual request... and not for special lab equipment. They needed a 33 square foot wall fixture to backlight the work of visiting artist-in-residence Serena Scapagnini.

By not saying, “No,” we inherited the complex job of backlighting the work.

Saliency, La Memoria Cangiante now hangs prominently in the institute’s inner atrium, lit by a 40” high x 9’-10” long floating acrylic diffuser panel packed with LED modules.

Occasionally, a project lands in our laps that has us scratching our caps.

Yale's Wu Tsai Institute, the university's home for neuroscience and cognitive psychology, recently contacted ARTfx with an unusual request... and not for special lab equipment. They needed a 33 square foot wall fixture to backlight the work of visiting artist-in-residence Serena Scapagnini.

From Rome, Italy, Serena had just completed Saliency, La Memoria Cangiante, a large-scale, mixed media painting on handmade, imported Italian Fabriano paper. Its sweeping blue wave is her visual interpretation of emanations from a brain's coronal section and hippocampal folds.

By not saying, "No," we inherited the complex job of backlighting the work. Serena's masterpiece now hangs prominently in the Wu Tsai Institute's inner atrium, lit by a 40" high x 9'-10" long floating acrylic diffuser panel packed with LED modules.

Located near the center of New Haven, Connecticut, Lost in New Haven is a growing museum which showcases notable local memorabilia from the seventeenth century to the present. The interior displays include antique signs authentically restored by ARTfx. On the building front, an ARTfx main identity sign features seamless, friction-fit channel letters and a glowing red acrylic ball serving as the round head of a 54" long pin which locates the museum's position on a stylized map of New Haven's central core.
In this video, Lost in New Haven's Founder and Director, Robert Greenberg, describes his vision for the museum and the ARTfx contributions as his extensive collections expand.

When Greylock Glen Center opened the doors to their new visitor and education center at the base of Mount Greylock, they brought us in to design and build the exhibit inside. Together we created an immersive walk into a Berkshire forest.

An illuminated ceiling fixture suspends life-sized acrylic cutouts of seven native bird species on aircraft cable. Sculptural trees rise from a printed floor scattered with animal tracks. Custom wallpaper and informational kiosks teach visitors about local biodiversity, native plants, mass timber construction, and the forests that surround the building itself.

The Outdoor Center sits at the foot of Mount Greylock, the tallest peak in Massachusetts at 3,489 feet. The building is net-zero, LEED-rated, and built with sustainable Glulam timber by Souliere & Zepka Construction, designed by Vermont Integrated Architecture. We were honored to contribute the exhibit at the heart of it.

Acrylic birds, sculptural trees, a printed floor with footprints.
The Greylock Glen Outdoor Center in Adams, Massachusetts, sits at the base of Mount Greylock—the tallest peak in the state. Inside, our team built an immersive environmental exhibit that walks visitors into a Berkshire forest.
The centerpiece: an illuminated ceiling fixture suspending life-sized acrylic cutouts of seven native bird species, hung on aircraft cable. Around it, custom printed wallpaper, sculptural trees, informational kiosks, and a printed floor that puts you on the trail.
Designed by ARTfx illustrator Pete Stockmal and owner Lawrin Rosen. Built by our fabricators, graphics team, and installers. Recommended to the project by .design.studio of Northampton, MA.
