What an honor to be designing the new Museum of Newport History.
As part of prepping this building - built in 1762 - for its next chapter in Newport, RI the windows are receiving preservation work over the next few weeks. Museum will open in early 2027!

One week away! The New Smile Gallery opens on World Smile Day, October 2 and we are staying open late – just for you! Free Admission from 1:00 pm – 7:00 pm on October 2. Be the first to see The Museum of Worcester’s new multi-media gallery that explores Harvey’s career as visual and commercial artist, the creation of Smile Face, and this cultural icon’s journey around the world.

In the spirit of Harvey Ball and World Smile Day's belief to "Do one act of kindness. Help one person smile." visitors are encouraged to bring a canned, good or non-perishable food item throughout the gallery's opening weekend to support Juniper Outreach's efforts to distribute food to local schools, students, and families.

Both of my grandfathers worked on the USS Massachusetts in Quincy, as it was built at the shipyard. I have letters from “Bill” Hansen’s boss who wrote his recommendation, commending his work. I have “Dave” Doucette’s brief case and drafting tools from his time as a designer. Decades later, after both had passed and the ships WWII service in the Pacific Theater was over I was able to work with Ariel on its reinterpretation and an interpretive exhibition overhaul at Battleship Cove, Fall River. Museum work is meaningful to us in more ways than one!⚓️ - Larissa

QUINCY, MASS. ANOTHER LINK IN UNCLE SAMS FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE

The Massachusetts (BB-59), 35,000-ton battleship and the newest addition to the United States Fleet, as she slid down the ways at the Bethlehem Steel Co. Fore River yard today.

As the huge hull cleared the ways, an overhead crane swung into place the keel for the Flint (CL-97), a new cruiser.

The Massachusetts will have a main battery of nine 16-inch guns, mounted in three turrets, as well as a battery of the latest type anti-aircraft and secondary broadside guns. The new battleship is the fourth to be launched under the capital ship expansion program.

Seriously though, we design immersive museum experiences and that includes the floor! What’s underfoot matters!
Ariel designed this floor, carefully placing each smile to work with the exhibition complement (which we also designed) and then we installed as part of our design-build contract.

A sneak peek of the entirely new Museum of Newport History — coming in early 2027 to Rhode Island!

It will be part of the Newport Historical Society’s campus of museums and will occupy the historic Brick Market building on the waterfront, designed by renowned architect Peter Harrison in the mid-1700s.

H2 is wrapping up years of exhibition design and planning and is well underway with production and fabrication. Together, with our subconsultants SV Design Architecture and Testa Lighting, we couldn’t be more delighted to be moving toward the finish line!

Making sure the whole place shines with smiles 😊😏😬😎. Finishing touches prior to opening day.

We designed and built this giant “open collection” case in our Middleborough, MA studio, with the goal of it becoming a center piece in the gallery and a repository for current and future museum collections which relate to Harvey Ball’s American Icon — the smile face he designed. 😃
