As a student at LWC, Kaela Nicholls was deeply involved in Defender Performing Arts. This past summer, her talent and hard work earned her an extraordinary opportunity: she was selected by Emmy Awards voters for the Television Academy Foundation’s highly competitive Drama Writing Internship in Hollywood, CA.

With thousands of applicants each year, only one Drama Writing intern and one Comedy Writing intern are selected... and Kaela secured the only Drama Writing internship! 🙌🏽

Through the program, Kaela had the opportunity to work alongside television writers and creative executives in the industry, gaining invaluable experience in a writers’ room and the world of television production.

Kaela graduated from Spelman College in 2024 with her B.A. and is now in her final year at Loyola Marymount University, where she is pursuing her MFA in Writing and Producing for Television.

Congratulations, Kaela! Your LWC family is incredibly proud of you and can’t wait to see where your talent, creativity, and determination take you next. Keep shining, Defender! 💙🎭📺
