EXCITING NEWS!!
Your Tesla can now help power your house. Not only do we love the car itself, but using it to power your home during an outage is awesome!
Tesla just turned on Powershare Home Backup for new Model 3 and Model Y, paired with Powerwall 3. During an outage, plug the car into a Wall Connector and the vehicle battery feeds the home. Tesla estimates that adds over two days of backup for a typical home (about 30 kWh a day), on top of the Powerwall.
This used to be a Cybertruck feature. Now it covers new Model 3 and Model Y ordered in the U.S. on or after October 1, 2026.
You’ll need a Powerwall 3 and a Universal Wall Connector or Wall Connector 3.
At Home Team Energy, this is the setup we’ve been waiting for. Solar, Powerwall, and the car in the driveway working as one backup system. Wisconsin winters and storm outages just got a lot less stressful.
