Job 1: standard stringer, visible welds. Looks great. Nothing wrong with it.

Job 2: zero visible welds. Everything hidden.

It's the small details. You get what you pay for. In the end it comes down to the look you want.

$40 million condo. Unit 2. 🏔

We did unit 1 up in the Colorado mountains. They brought us back for the next one.

Now count the panels. Cardboard templates for all of that? Line lasers and a tape, then punch it all into CAD?

Two days' notice. Caught a detail everybody else missed.

The stairs run wider than code, so there's a little piece of glass on the landing return. Coming down the rake, the reveal at the nosing keeps changing unless you shim the standoff or go adjustable.

Two ways to make the turn:
1. The long panel runs to the end of the nosing, and the small panel tees into it.
2. The glass lines up with the small panel, and all the corners land perfect.

We modeled both and got the architect, designer and homeowner to sign off before cutting anything. No plywood mockups.

Somebody walked up on me in a parking lot this week. “Whoa, sick car bro.”

Appreciate it. Then: so what do you do for a living?

I own Redline Templates. We do digital templating — laser the job, build the 3D model, send the glazier a cut file that fits the first time. Takes the physical template out of the equation entirely, and takes the intricate stuff off their plate.

He asked if we only cover Colorado. Nope. We cover the nation. We’ll get on a plane and go pretty much anywhere.

He said that must be how I got the car. Ha. Twelve years of doing it right is how I got the car.

Steamboat. Fall colors going off.

Glass railing all the way around this deck so nothing blocks that view. Blizzard, powder day, or foliage. You want to see it.

Measured it before the decking was even on. Scanned everything, laid out every standoff around the outside, accounted for the deck so the glass sits flush at the bottom.

This one's gonna turn out badass.

Rake, landing, turn into the balcony run. Every hole has to line up or you'll see it from across the lobby.

We shoot every standoff, model it, and send a DXF that fits. Wrong? We buy the replacement piece.

Scanned the plywood before the framing was even done.

New Jersey stair. Curve panel. Base shoe centered on the stringer, and the radius wasn't framed yet.

We scanned the subfloor, referenced the joints in the wood, and told them exactly where to cut and reframe the arc. 3/4" wood on the outside, metal on the inside.

Saves them weeks.

And this damn humidity, man. East Coast, I feel for you. Get a pocket fan.

Every tread a different height. Width, depth, rise too. All over the place.

Denver stair that was never designed for glass on the outside. Contractor replaced every tread and landing, so we came back and rescanned.

Told them where to shim. Designed the glass. Notched it around the landings and flattened the bottom so the top cap lines up perfect.

Small detail. Changes the whole look.

Half an inch of tilt on the steel. Five feet of glass hanging off it. You do the math.

Glass canopy on a commercial job in Denver. Metal fingers coming off the building, and they're not parallel. Some tipped up, some tipped down. Scanned every one so the contractor knows exactly where to shim, where to swap standoffs, and which ones are out of square before a single lite gets cut.

Everything has to line up straight. Now they know how.

Not every arch top shower needs a digital template.

Half the time you set your lasers, pull your arcs, grab your RO's and go.

Then you get one like this. Tile's moving a quarter of an inch — so the arch is moving right along with it. Inconsistencies the whole way around.

We're going offset hinge, set to the face of the outside edge.

That's the call we like getting.
