Stone World in the granite days. Glass Magazine last year for the digital templating piece. And the Michael Godard painting I tried to trade a granite kitchen for on Craigslist twenty years ago — finally got one off a gallery wall.

Open treads. Spigot mount. No base shoe to hide behind.

Every tread is a hair different than the next one — taller, deeper, off a quarter inch. They always are. Now add the half-inch overlap on every nose and try to find your true rake with a tape. Can't be done. Not dead nuts.

Shot every tread. Built the model. Cut file matched the staircase that got built, not the one on the plans.

Glass fit the first time. Spigots landed where they were supposed to.

Twenty years chasing a Michael Godard painting.

Tried to trade a granite kitchen for one on Craigslist back in the day. Deal fell apart. Walked through a gallery years later and there it was — couldn't leave without it.

Same stretch of years, Stone World magazine featured me in the granite days. Last year Glass Magazine ran my piece on lasers and digital templating. Stone, then glass, then a painting I'd wanted for decades.

Michael Godard is a badass.

Helical staircase in Texas. Curved glass. A few problems waiting for us.

The base shoe was centered in the stringer — but the stringer wasn't a true arc. Little bumps in the curve. Glass won't fit. Caught a few spots where the shoe wasn't plumb as it climbed the helix too. Top was good, bottom was leaned. That glass never would've sat.
Found it all before they ordered the glass. Saved them a ton of money and a s**t ton of time.

Rodney didn’t start in glass.

He was running a granite countertop company and drove 2.5 hours to measure… a rectangle island.

Then he watched a glass railing install fail because the templates were off.

He scanned the standoffs digitally.
The glass fit perfectly.
