Just a quick reminder of what to keep an eye out for when severe weather hits your area.

Just a heads up, it looks like we could be in for a bumpy ride this week! 

Forecasts are showing multiple chances for strong to severe storms this week, especially Monday through Wednesday and again Friday. It’s a good time to take a few minutes and make sure you’re ready just in case.

A few quick reminders:
• Secure or bring in loose outdoor items
• Park vehicles in a garage or away from trees if possible
• Review your insurance coverage and take a quick look at your roof, siding, and gutters
• Have a way to receive weather alerts, especially overnight

No need to panic — just stay aware and prepared. We’ll keep an eye on things as the week unfolds. Stay safe out there.

Multiple days this week will bring the opportunity for strong to severe storms.

The Storm Prediction Center is looking to issue a Tornado Watch this afternoon for the area circled in red. This is where at least a little partial clearing should take place, allowing the atmosphere to become unstable enough for the round of storms later today. First potential storm of the season slated to hit NE Iowa, NW Illinois, and Southern Wisconsin tonight. Don’t forget to put your vehicles inside to protect them if you can.

If your home or farm sustains any wind or hail damage from the storm, be sure to contact your insurance company right away to get the claim process started. Then it is time to choose a contractor to assist with the repairs.

Two things I have always recommended to my customers when choosing a contractor…
1. Are they local with a good reputation?
2. Do they do their own work?
(In other words, do they have their own crews/ employees that install the roofs, or do they try to find ”local” subcontractors to quickly fill a quota?)

These two questions will quickly w**d out a large majority of the out of town contractors making false promises and just looking for a quick payout.

Keep in mind, if anyone tries to push you into quickly signing a contract before your insurance company has a chance to inspect the damage, this is a HUGE red flag and you need to proceed cautiously.

Your local insurance agent typically is an excellent resource in helping you find a reliable local contractor to assist with your claims process.
