One of the most expensive communication failures inside companies is assumed ownership.

A task gets discussed in a meeting and people leave believing some else it taking the lead. This can cause issues of poor follow-up, missed deadlines and leadership saying " we need better communication." The real issue isn't really communication, instead it's true ownership was never taken. One of the biggest bottlenecks I see in growing companies is when too much runs through too few people.

It starts out with the intention for efficiency. Leaders stay close to the details to keep taps on quality and consistency. But, as the company grows, bad habits surface. You begin to see it in the day-to-day:

In construction, hard work is expected. Early mornings, long days, pushing through problems and getting to the deadline. Most people in this industry aren’t afraid of effort. But over time we’ve seen a common symptom.

Not everyone who works hard produces the same results. That’s where the gap shows up between hard workers and high performers.

A hard worker will stay busy. They’ll grind, stay involved, and put in the hours.

A high performer is more intentional.
