This past weekend, I experienced one of the greatest joys of my life, watching my son get baptized by my best friend since college, who also happens to be his pastor.
Historically, I’ve been hesitant about kids getting baptized young. Probably because of my own story. I was baptized as a kid, but I didn’t truly believe or understand the gospel until college, when I was baptized again. Looking back, I always felt like I just got wet the first time.
But raising Ashton over the past several years has been different.
I’ve watched him grow into a young man with a deep love for God, a real understanding of Scripture, and a heart full of compassion. If you know him, you know he’s always talking about God’s Word, and not just repeating it, but understanding it. He can walk you through the history of biblical figures, quote Scripture from memory, and explain who Christ is and what the gospel means in his own words.
Honestly, it’s humbling.
I’m incredibly thankful for our church and for the school he’s a part of. Plaza has helped him see the gospel clearly. Hickory Grove Christian School has helped shape his character and faith in powerful ways.
God has given me the privilege to lead, shepherd, and disciple my own son, and I don’t take that lightly.
I’m proud of you, buddy. I’m excited to see how God continues to grow you.
