Marks-Miller Post & Pole is still in operation and open for business!

It has come to our attention that many think we are also the post and pole yard in Clancy. Marks-Miller Post & Pole will still be in business. They are completely separate from Marks Lumber (different owners). Please contact them for all you post and rail needs.

Marks Miller Post and Pole has been manufacturering fence posts for 38 years. We have built a reputation over the 38 years and the quality of our products is second to none.

After much consideration and with great difficulty, we have made the decision to retire and close Marks Lumber in 2027.

This decision marks the end of an important chapter for our family, our employees, and the many customers and business partners who have supported Marks Lumber throughout the years. We are proud of the business we have built and deeply grateful for the relationships that have made this journey possible.

As we begin the process of winding down operations, we want to provide our customers and business partners with the following timeline:

• October 20, 2026: Marks Lumber will stop accepting special-cut orders.
• November 6, 2026: Sawing operations will come to an end.
• Remainder of 2026: Marks Lumber will continue to serve customers with existing inventory.
• 2027: We will continue to serve customers as we sell through our remaining stock products. Our final closing date will be determined by the depletion of our inventory.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to everyone who has been part of Marks Lumber over the years.

To our employees, thank you for your hard work, dedication, and commitment. To our customers, thank you for your business, trust, and continued support.

To the loggers, truckers, foresters, vendors, wood products associations, Montana Private Forest Landowners, Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation Forestry and Trust Lands Division, US Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management, thank you for the partnerships and relationships that have sustained our business and contributed to our success.

Marks Lumber has been fortunate to be part of this industry and this community, and we are grateful for the many friendships and memories created along the way.

While closing the business is a difficult decision, we are thankful for the opportunity to bring Marks Lumber to a thoughtful and orderly conclusion.

We look forward to working with our customers and partners throughout the remainder of our operations and to expressing our appreciation personally whenever possible.

Thank you for your support, your trust, and for being part of the Marks Lumber story.

🏆 We have a winner! 🏆 Congratulations to Steve Goodwin, the randomly selected winner of the 2026 Marks Lumber Photo Renovation Contest!

Steve gave this mobile home an incredible transformation, stripping the aluminum siding and rebuilding with new insulation, windows, a metal roof, and 1x10 and 1x4 board-and-batten siding all using boards from Marks Lumber. The finished project gives the home a classic new look, while the upgraded 7-inch walls have also helped considerably reduce the power bill.

Steve has been contacted, and we’ll be sending him a MacKenzie River gift card to celebrate his win! 🎉 A huge thank you to Steve and everyone who submitted a project this year. We have absolutely loved seeing what you’ve built, renovated, and transformed with Marks Lumber products!

Cris Hill’s submission to the 2026 Marks Lumber Photo Renovation Contest tackled a common problem: steps that were simply too narrow and too steep. The new design increased the step width by more than 4 inches and reduced the drop by about an inch, making them significantly easier to navigate.

Though he shared that this project was much larger and more complex project than it first appeared, it’s a great example of a renovation where thoughtful changes can make a big difference. Thanks for sharing, Cris!

There’s nothing like a good before + after! This entry for the 2026 Marks Lumber Photo Renovation Contest comes from Ted Martin, who shared photos of his yard before and after adding 360 feet of fencing between the house and barn.

Ted and his wife built the entire fence themselves using 2x6x8s and 1x6x8s from Marks Lumber for the rails, with 4-inch hog wire in between. The goal? Creating a safe space to keep their 3-year-old grandson happily corralled while they care for him.

The finished product is sturdy, functional, and completely transforms the space. As Ted put it, “I love the fact it does what we intended it for!”

Another great entry for the 2026 Marks Lumber Renovation Photo Contest! Brent Remer sent in his “Covid Barn,” built high in the mountains in 2020–2021 as a home for a snowcat… and a place to get away from the crazy!
Brent used 1x12 rough sawn siding from Marks Lumber to create the board-and-batten look and expressed:

“Product sourced from Marks was top quality!”

Our only Marketplace ads will be for our odds and ends lumber, posted by Keaton Santos. Our firewood is only sold through the office directly. If you have any concerns.
