Ever wonder what happens right after a log becomes lumber? This is the “green chain” in action—a key part of the sawmill process where freshly cut (“green”) boards move down the line to be sorted, inspected, and stacked by size before heading off to dry.

It’s fast-paced, hands-on work that keeps the whole mill moving and helps make sure every board ends up exactly where it needs to go.

Meet Noah! For the past 2 years, Noah has been helping keep things moving at Marks Lumber as one of our mill hands by running various saws and mill positions, helping with maintenance, and contributing around the lumber yard with sorting and grading.
His favorite part of the job? Running the mill.
Favorite product? The 1” and 2” circle sawn lumber—“looks nice,” according to Noah, and we’d have to agree.
Outside of work, you’ll usually find him hunting, skiing, fishing, or dirt biking around Montana, which he loves most for its terrain and wide-open spaces.
