The day after Juneteenth, the work continues.

The Cleveland Freedom Dreams Coalition is hosting The People's Solutions Lab: 2026 Municipal Election Edition this Saturday, June 20 at Care Alliance Health Center. This is civic power in practice. The ballot is one of the most direct tools community agency has, and this session is about making sure we know exactly how to use it going into the 2026 midterms.

Community as agency is not just a theme. It is what shows up on a Saturday morning after a Friday night of celebration, ready to build.

Juneteenth is not just a date on the calendar. It is a question we have been asking ourselves for 161 years, and today we are asking it out loud.

Not freedom as a legal declaration that arrived two and a half years late. Freedom as a lived, embodied, daily practice.

The People's Solutions Lab: Midterm Elections Edition at Care Alliance Health Center. Civic education, voter access, and real organizing tools for the people you know who need them. Free and open to the public.

Lead poisoning is not an accident of geography. It is the predictable result of decades of disinvestment in Black and brown neighborhoods — older housing stock, deferred maintenance, and systems that looked the other way. Knowing the facts is the first line of defense for your family.

The Lead Safe Resource Center is hosting a free training at ThirdSpace Action Lab this Saturday, June 13 at 12PM. The session covers the Lead Safe Cleveland Coalition, the resources and teams available to support you, and everything you need to know about lead poisoning prevention in your home. This is the kind of knowledge that protects your children and holds negligent systems accountable.

Cancer does not announce itself and for too long, Black families have had to navigate it without the information, the access, or the community support that changes outcomes. That changes this Saturday.

The Black Family Cancer Awareness event is bringing together food, music, health screenings, dental care, resource tables, and activities for the kids, all in one place, all at no cost. This is what community agency looks like when it is organized around our health: not a waiting room, not a lecture, but a full gathering designed around the people who show up.

WKYC's Danielle Wiggins is serving as Honorary Chairperson, and the ThirdSpace Reading Room is proud to be part of making this happen.

ThirdSpace Action Lab is hosting Wellness Wednesday — a one-hour session designed exclusively for women to recharge, reconnect, and prioritize their well-being. Join us for a dedicated hour of wellness in a supportive, community-centered space built for women who are ready to invest in themselves. This year, ThirdSpace wants you to confirm and abide by your agency.

Agency looks at your ability to live freely and to make your own choices. We are firmly rooted in our advance of anti-racist community development and the agency of gatherings of people.

Yes, we will have a small slate of events, but our purpose is to highlight and push forward the narrative of our collective community of those doing the catalytic work of change.

Walter Mosley has written more than sixty books. "Ghalen: A Romance in Black" might be his finest.
It's the story of one Black family — a scientist, a cook, and the brilliant son they raise together — told with the patience and depth that Mosley always brings to the inner lives of people mainstream fiction tends to skip past. Love in all its forms. Becoming. What you carry from the people you lose.

The book dropped yesterday. Tomorrow, he's sitting down with Black bookstores that are a part of the National Association of Black bookstore nationwide to talk about it, and we're hosting the virtual watch party right here in the Reading Room.
