MURRAY, Ky. — Veteran and military students at Murray State University have a new space to connect on campus, thanks to a $200,000 donation from Vfw Post Murray. The money, raised through electronic pull tabs, helped create the Herman Eddie Roberts, Jr. Post 6291 Veteran and Military Student Success Lounge in the Blackburn Science Building. The lounge was dedicated Wednesday, Oct. 28 and recognizes the post’s nearly 40 years of service to veterans, military families and the western Kentucky community. The donation will also help fund educational seminars, professional development opportunities and the monthly Commander R.J. Owens Veterans Lunch for veteran and military students and their families. “Charitable gaming has been such a blessing,” said Post Cmdr. R.J. Owens. “The difference charitable gaming has enabled us to make in others’ lives is the most important part of it.”

KENDALLVILLE, Ind. — Kendallville Elks Lodge has reached six figures in charitable donations in just 10 months, thanks to proceeds generated by electronic pull tabs introduced in January. The $100,000 in donations has helped support youth sports, high school bowling teams and cheerleading squads. The lodge’s charitable gaming revenue also funds cancer research. A recent golf outing raised money to support efforts to find a cure for breast cancer.

GRIFFITH, Ind. — It takes a lot of candy to fill 500 trick-or-treaters’ bags, but Griffith VFW Post 9982 was ready for the crowd at its recent Trunk or Treat. The post spent $1,000 on sweets using money raised through electronic pull tabs, giving local families a fun way to celebrate Halloween. Proceeds from charitable gaming also help the post give back throughout the year, supporting the VFW National Home, programs at the VA hospital, and needed updates to the post building.

CLINTON, Ind. — Since adding electronic pull tabs in January, Clinton F.O.E #887 has doubled its charitable donations, giving more than $20,000 to local schools, police, fire crews and the humane society. The added revenue has also helped the organization make improvements to its building, including a new patio and parking lot repairs. SANDUSKY, Ohio — VFW Post 2529 Sandusky donated $10,000 to breast cancer research during Perkins High School’s “Pink Out” football game last weekend. The donation is part of the hundreds of thousands of dollars the Sandusky post has raised for local causes through electronic pull tabs. In July, the post gave $40,000 to help replace EMS equipment on Kelleys Island that was destroyed by historic flooding. The post also awards $15,000 in scholarships to local students each year. It has also paid for a service dog and its training for one of its veteran members. Quartermaster Josh Bender said, “If it wasn't for charitable gaming, we couldn't do what we do.”

DELPHI, Ind. — American Legion Post 75 Delphi, Indiana is helping make sure no student goes hungry. Since March, the post has donated more than $2,000 to Delphi Community Schools to pay off student lunch debt. The money comes from change left over from electronic pull tab winnings. The post has used E-Tab revenue to donate more than $10,000 to other local causes, including law enforcement and youth baseball and softball teams. Charitable gaming proceeds have paid for facility improvements, too, including an expanded patio and additional parking.
