I'm returning from five incredible days in Phoenix at the Rotary Emerging Leaders Conference and Zone Training, and I came home thinking about one simple leadership lesson: a leader never stops learning.

No matter how long you’ve been leading, there is always something new to learn and someone new to learn from.

But my biggest takeaway wasn’t something I wrote in my notebook. It was the people I met, the relationships I built, and a reminder of what can happen when someone believes in you enough to open a door.

I wrote about the experience, my gratitude to Steve Roberge for giving me this opportunity, and why sometimes the best leadership advice is just two words: Say yes.

Here’s the full story. 👇

The best leaders never stop learning, never stop building relationships, and never underestimate the power of saying yes.

Great leaders and everybody else are separated by one thing: which staircase they climb when things go wrong.

Below the line, it's denial, blame, waiting, and excuses. It's crowded down there because it's easy.

Above the line, it's initiative, responsibility, solutions, and ownership. Nobody starts there by accident. You have to choose it, one decision at a time.

Ask yourself this week: where am I actually spending my time?

Leadership never stops with the leader. Every conversation, decision, behavior, and action creates a ripple. How you lead affects your team, your team affects the environment, the environment affects your customers, and eventually it all shows up in your results. The question isn’t whether you’re creating a ripple. The question is what kind of ripple you’re creating.

Leadership doesn’t wait for the annual retreat or the big staff meeting.

It happens before lunch.

It’s how you respond when someone is frustrated, the schedule falls apart, you’re short staffed, or someone needs an answer. It’s the small decisions you make every day that tell your people what kind of leader you really are.

My latest article, “Leadership Happens Before Lunch,” is about recognizing those everyday leadership moments and doing something with them.

Your title is a noun. Leadership is a verb.

If you want to develop stronger leaders who know how to lead when the real world shows up, let’s talk.

We all have that difficult conversation we know we need to have.

And waiting usually doesn't make it easier.

In my latest article, “The First 60 Seconds of a Difficult Conversation,” I share five simple steps: Observe. Impact. Expect. Listen. Follow Up.

You don't need the perfect words. You just need to have the conversation.

If your organization could use help developing stronger leaders, let's talk. Reach out to conroyleadershipconsulting.com

Nonprofit leaders are exhausted, not from lack of commitment, but from carrying too much alone.

Unclear expectations, board tension, culture drift. Most don’t need more theory. They need someone who’s sat in the chair.

That’s why I started Conroy Leadership Consulting. Leadership is a Verb. If you’re ready for clear expectations, healthier culture, and real accountability, let’s connect.

I want to know my people. What are they good at? Where do they want to go? What’s getting in their way? What talents do they have that we may not even be using yet?

That means getting out of the office. Walking around. Having coffee. Asking questions. And most importantly, listening.

Because here’s what I’ve learned: The amount of influence I have with someone is directly related to the relationship I have with that person.

My latest Substack article is about why relationships aren’t the soft side of leadership. They’re at the heart of great leadership.

Give it a read, and then ask yourself: "How well do I really know the people I lead?" Then let's connect at conroyleadershipconsulting.com.

If you want a stronger organization, stop leading job descriptions and start knowing your people.

I’ve been reading Theo of Golden by Allen Levi, and it reminds me of something I’ve believed for years.

Our influence with others is built on the quality of our relationships.

In a world that’s quick to label people, great leaders choose to truly see the individual. Every person has a story worth knowing.

My latest article explores this simple but powerful leadership lesson. I hope you’ll give it a read.

If it resonates with you, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

With a new season of Ted Lasso on the way, it got me thinking.

Ted Lasso was never really about soccer. It was about transformational leadership.

Every character had a choice: stay the same or become better. Through humility, courage, accountability, and belief in others, they discovered that the greatest victories aren’t on the scoreboard. They’re found in the growth of people.

That’s the leadership lesson I explore in my latest Substack article.

If this resonates with you, visit ConroyLeadershipConsulting.com. I’d love to help you and your organization grow stronger together.

The real story was about transformational leadership, personal growth, and becoming the kind of leader people choose to follow.

I've met people with impressive titles who weren't really leading anyone. I've also met people without a leadership title who made everyone around them better.

Leadership isn't something you receive with a promotion. It's something you practice every day. It's how you treat people, the conversations you choose to have, the standards you set, and the example you leave behind.

Every one of us has an opportunity to lead today. The only question is, what kind of example will we set?

Who has influenced your leadership the most, and what did they do that made a lasting difference? I'd love to hear your story. Visit conroyleadershipconsulting.com.
