I directed all U.S. Coast Guard flag officers, SESs, and Gold Badge Command Master Chiefs to attend a conference focused on strengthening Coast Guard culture. This was the first time in recent history the Service’s entire senior leadership traveled to Coast Guard Headquarters to discuss a single topic – an indicator of the event’s importance. The agenda included sessions presented by RAINN on the impacts of trauma and trauma-informed communications, and the group also heard powerful first-hand accounts from several Coast Guard victims/survivors of sexual assault, both men and women. The senior leader group discussed at length the strategic leadership steps necessary to strengthen a service culture intolerant of any harmful behaviors at every unit. Thank you to the conference organizers and presenters for putting together this powerful event!
