Pride Month is an opportunity to recognize LGBTQ+ communities and discuss on how organizations foster belonging.

That discussion can include questions about workplace culture, employee experiences, equitable policies, access to resources, and community partnerships. Most importantly discussing Pride Month means including those that identify with Pride in the conversation.

The most impactful approaches move beyond awareness and focus on creating environments where people can contribute, grow, and feel supported as their authentic selves.

How is your organization celebrating Pride Month this year? How will you increase a sense belonging for all employees?

What if organizations measured success not only by output, but by whether employees had the capacity to sustain it?

As we recognize Men’s Mental Health Month, it’s worth examining the role workplaces play in supporting well-being. Too often, conversations about mental health focus exclusively on personal responsibility while overlooking the systems and environments that contribute to stress and burnout.

Building healthier workplaces means creating cultures where asking for help is normalized, recovery is supported, and people are equipped to do their best work without sacrificing their well-being.

That is not only a mental health conversation. It’s a leadership conversation.

Research can tell us a lot. Conversations can tell us even more.

As part of Detroit Future City’s Career-Connected Learning report, nearly 200 Detroit youth shared their thoughts about preparing for careers, navigating opportunities, and what support looks like from their perspective.

Woods & Watts Effect was proud to serve as the youth engagement consultant for this project, helping facilitate the conversations that informed the report’s findings and recommendations.

Thank you to Detroit Future City for the opportunity to contribute to this work and to the young people who showed up, shared honestly, and helped move the conversation forward.

Read the report and share it with your networks.

Who has access to mental healthcare, and who is still navigating without it?

Mental health conversations often focus on awareness, but access and equity remain critical parts of the discussion.

Economic barriers, cultural stigma, and systemic disparities continue to shape how individuals experience mental healthcare and whether support feels accessible in the first place.

These realities require thoughtful, community-informed approaches to care.

“Men don’t cry” is a mantra many boys learn early and carry for years.

In sports, in workplaces, and in everyday life, expressing sadness or disappoinment is often discouraged or misunderstood (while angry emotions tend to be accepted or even encouraged). When people are taught to suppress how they feel, it does not disappear. It shows up in other ways.

This Mental Health Awareness Month is an opportunity to question what we have normalized and who and how it impacts others.

Creating space for healthy emotional expression strengthens individuals and their communities.

We ❤️ this!!!!

A small adjustment that made a meaningful difference.

This moment reflects what equity can look like in practice. Paying attention, responding with intention, and making space for people to show up as they are.

Feeling valued and included often comes down to seeing and respecting differences and then responding as needed.

We are recognizing Mother’s Day by honoring mothers whose leadership has created meaningful change.

Wilma Mankiller, Tammy Duckworth and Fannie Lou Hamer represent what it looks like to lead with intention, advocate for others, and shape systems in ways that expand access and opportunity.

Their impact extends beyond their own families and into the communities and institutions they’ve helped strengthen.

Who’s a mother you admire for their ability and capacity to create change for others?
