The most effective social engineering calls are made on an ordinary Tuesday. Someone claims to be your bank, your vendor, or your own IT team. They ask you to read back a code or approve a request.
Real support will never mind waiting sixty seconds. End the call. Find the number yourself (on a statement, an email signature, a saved contact, or an official website). Call back.
If the request was authentic, nothing is lost. If it wasn’t, then you just ended an attack.
