Ask an IT team who's responsible for security and you'll usually get a finger pointed upstairs. They're not wrong.

Oscar Minks, FRSecure's President, put the question to Matthew Dowd, our Offense Team Manager.

You may not expect a security CEO to credit his approach to years of classical music training, but FRSecure's CEO John Harmon does.

Before he led FRSecure, John came up through sales and solutions work, learning how to line up what a client needs with what keeps them safe.

The discipline that stuck with him from music is steady. One note at a time. One solution. And then onto the next.

The advice that sticks with you long term is usually the kind that sounded simple the first time you heard it.

We asked our team about the security guidance that shaped how they approach the job today. What is the best piece of security advice you have been given?

FRSecure took over Pinstripes this year! Each year, we bring employees together in Minnesota to recognize our achievements, commemorate team contributions, and celebrate what makes our culture - our team of rockstar people! Around 150 of us attended, with nearly 50 people flying in from out of state.

Between the bowling, bocce, escape rooms, arcade battles, and team dinners, the competition got real. Our analyst crews, Mindhive, gathered for their annual MELD conference, and on Friday, we packed 65 hygiene kits for a local nonprofit with Greater Twin Cities United Way.

Then came the Founder's Club and value-focused awards, where we celebrated the people who make FRSecure what it is. By the end of the weekend, we had proof of what we all knew going in: this is a great team that genuinely likes being around each other.

Thanks to everyone who traveled in and showed up for one another FRSecure get-together!

AI pen testing is showing up in nearly every vendor pitch right now. The question you need to be asking is whether the label matches what the tool actually does.

FRSecure's Seth Bowling and Eric Hanson sat down to talk through where automated and AI-driven testing has a place, and where relying on it could leave real gaps in your security program.

Turns out a knack for problem solving under pressure carries straight into the kitchen.

Dave Giancristoforo, our Senior Key Account Manager, teamed up with our client Revo Health for a cooking competition that doubled as a fundraiser for CIOs Against Cancer, a Minnesota group of tech leaders raising money for American Cancer Society research and supporting families in the middle of treatment. They took second place overall and first in the main course thanks to a total team effort. 🥇

A great day with a great client, all for a cause worth showing up for. If you would like to pitch in, the team's donation link is in the comments.

Earlier this month, FRSecure was the featured sponsor of the Minnesota Wind Chill Ultimate squad as they took on the Indianapolis AlleyCats at Sea Foam Stadium. 🥏 The first 1,500 fans walked in to cobranded Thundersticks, and the energy was great all night.

We were proud to come out and support FRSecure's very own Brandon Matis and his Wind Chill teammates, and our CRO Drew Boeke got the game going with the ceremonial opening pull.

Cheering on pro Ultimate in our own backyard is hard to beat. 🙌 Thanks to the Wind Chill for having us, and congrats on the win!

Most organizations don't find the gaps in their incident response plan until they're in the middle of an incident. That's the worst possible time to make that discovery.

Oscar Minks has some thoughts on readiness, and they apply whether you're prepping for a fishing trip or a security incident. Preparation isn't something you scramble for when conditions turn. It's the work you do beforehand so you're not caught off guard.

FRSecure has a free IR plan template to help you get started. If you need help building or testing your plan, we're here for that too.

The women leading security don't all have the same title. They don't all have the same path. But they're all going to be in the same room on May 7.

This year's HERoic Hacks includes women leading security from every angle — a COO who has built organizations from early security foundations to mature, compliant postures. A vCISO who has spent over a decade designing governance and risk programs that actually hold up. A pe*******on tester who finds the misconfigurations others miss. An educator bringing fundamentals back to end-user training in a way that sticks.

These are practitioners and leaders who have done the work. The conversations on May 7 will reflect that.

Don't miss your chance to hear from and connect with these women. There's still a few spots left for tomorrow's event!

Most security programs run into the same wall as they grow. The tools are in place, but the operational foundation underneath them was never built to scale with the business.

Julie Doehrmann has spent her career on that problem. As Chief Operating Officer at CODE Technology, she leads operations, technology, and security with a focus on what it actually takes to grow an organization without leaving its security posture behind.

Julie is keynoting HERoic Hacks 2026 on May 7 at O'Shaughnessy Distilling Co. in Minneapolis.

If you've been on the fence about going, this is your sign.
