This shower door broke on someone while they were in the shower.
How to tell good tempered glass from bad. See photo two.

Stitches. A trip to the ER. Then a whole new door. The door came from a big box store. It was tempered wrong.

Good tempered glass breaks into lots of small, dull pieces. There are tests for this. One counts the pieces inside a two-inch square. Another weighs the ten biggest pieces. Look at photo two. We drew the square and dotted each piece. Not enough of them. Now look at photo one. That long sliver is what we call an icicle. That's what cuts you.

Every piece of tempered glass, mirror, and pattern glass we sell is made and tempered in the United States. It has to pass. We don't buy glass that hopes to.

Glass hides nothing. Neither do we. The cheap route on a shower door can cost you more than you know.

Office glass walls: two things they do, one thing they don't.
Planning a buildout? Read this before you choose.

Glass walls do two things drywall can't. They borrow light from the rest of the office. And they let people see the room is in use without knocking.

Now the honest part. A wall of single glass panels has small gaps between the panels. It cuts sound down. It does not make a quiet room. If you need real privacy, there are systems built for that. Two layers of glass, sealed frames, a door with a drop seal. They cost more. We'll tell you which one you actually need.

Backlit. Floating off the wall. It started as a picture in somebody's head and a visit to the shop.

Custom mirror work is mostly listening. What shape? What size? What's behind it? Does it need light? Then we draw it. You approve the drawing. We cut it and hang it so it stays hung.

Meet the orange robot. It sets glass too heavy to carry.
Got big storefront glass? Here's the question to ask every bidder.

A big lite of storefront glass is heavy and awkward. The sidewalk is full of people who didn't sign up to be near it. So it doesn't get carried. Suction cups grab it. A machine built for this walks it into the opening an inch at a time.

Foggy window you can't clean? Don't buy a new window yet.
In most cases the frame stays. Here's how to tell.

Look at the first photo. The seal between the two panes of glass failed. Water got in. It dried and left a film. No cleaner can touch it. The haze is on the inside.

Here's the fix most people don't know about. In most cases we replace just the glass unit. Your frame stays. Same opening, same trim. Usually no drywall and no painter. That's the second photo.

Some days our office has no window. We took it out.
Views only a glazier gets, part one.

Nobody puts this on the job description. Sometimes the glass goes in from the inside. So you end up standing where the window used to be. Gloves in one hand. The Sears Tower right there.

We're going to start sharing these. Our crews see the city from angles most people never will. It seems a shame to keep them on a phone.
