This year I repainted two carnival games for Ferndale’s Junior High Carnival, which happened last Friday. This is an annual event that raises money for the 8th-graders’ trip at the end of the school year. My 8th-grader is super excited for the trip.

Details from a private commission that I recently completed, for a memorial flower garden. I’ve never considered working with a super-graphic in this way, so this hydrangea/rose combo was super fun.

My first exercise in “The Advanced Workshop of Glass Guilding Techniques” by . My 42nd birthday fell on Mother’s Day this year, so my mom & I celebrated by doing a gift/lettering exchange on the theme of “42”.

As Douglas Adams wrote in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, “The answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything is... 42.”

What a gem is. I hung this new shingle out on Main Street with the assistance of, appropriately enough, my son Strider. A wonderfully curated shop with so many vintage treasures to explore. And check out the LOTR-themed window display next to the sign!

Hanging a shingle today at . Last year during a work break in Old Town Eureka, I took a walk and headed in a direction I didn’t normally take. What resulted was a serendipitous opportunity, within that 15-minute window, to paint this sign. Those kind of moments are everywhere.

Get the word out, Eureka, is open for business! One of the storefront windows sustained some damage in the past, so had been painted grey to cover it up. As Rochelle put it, “We made lemonade out of ugly grey lemons”.

This isn’t just a beauty supply store, it’s an inclusive space for community. One of my favorite moments while painting was when a shopper hopped out of her car and declared, “You’ve saved Eureka! We have needed this…”

This HCAR sign lives in Eureka, CA, on E Street between Wabash & Randall. This year we lost its immensely talented creator Chris Johnson. Chris was a prolific artist at .and.clay , whom I knew for 6+ years. I had the honor of painting the lettering on Chris’ panoramic Humboldt landscape. Chris, who painted himself into this scene wearing his signature blue Crocs, always spoke of this sign as if it was ours. It’s his, though. And he’s out there pa every day.

A sign for the workspace of my friend Marc. He produced and recorded my album “The Center” a few years back, and I wanted to make something for his studio. These days, he told me, he’s mostly writing prose in The Tinshack.

My home studio in Fortuna will be open to the public this weekend, 10-5 Sat & Sun! It’s also the citywide garage sale 😉. I’ll have my current project on the easel, and can do some demos for interested folks. Come get a sticker and ask me about my electro pounce machine!
