ICE AGENT STRUCK BY VEHICLE IN HOWARD COUNTY, MARYLAND
COLUMBIA, MD - A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Special Agent was struck by a vehicle in Howard County Maryland on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
The incident unfolded on the 5300 block of Phelps Drive in Columbia, at around 2.27 pm. A criminal subject had rammed into a federal agent, striking him in the leg before fleeing.
A nearby witness at the Eatalino Market & Deli confirmed that the Agents with ERO (Enforcement & Removal Operations) had attempted to stop a green Ford Mustang, as it pulled into a nearby parking lot. As has become standard practice for agents, multiple agents then approached the vehicle on foot, from other ICE Vehicles nearby.
The criminal then used his vehicle to try to run over an ICE Agent. The Agent took evasive action, but was still struck in the leg.
The Agents do have the tag information on the subject vehicle, and it was reported to the Howard County Police, who responded.
Why the Special Agents did not pursue the subject after he attacked one of their number is unclear, especially since a federal felony had been committed in their presence. It is unknown if department policy permits them only to do traffic stops, but not engage in pursuits.
The Agent who was struck was transported by Howard County EMS from the scene to a nearby hospital for treatment and evaluation. An anonymous fire official in Howard County confirmed that the Agent would make a full recovery.
Howard County Police stated that they will be charging the subject.
If the subject is booked into jail for the referenced offenses, despite attacking a federal agent, it is likely he may walk out without being held for ICE. The leftist leadership of Howard County passed numerous resolutions to prevent county officers, including police and corrections, from assisting or even notifying federal agents of releases. They will not honor ICE detainers.
ILE hopes the Department of Homeland Security will do something to prosecute the subject who attacked the agents.
ILE may not agree with tactics and methodologies used by our colleagues in ICE, but we cannot excuse or tolerate any attack on law enforcement officers.
