Whew! What a race weekend! Here's a super quick sneak peek from Round 4 of the Sunrise Downhill series. There's nothing like going to that part of the state to make you love Arizona more. It was an intense day and a bit of a wild weekend. I didn't get to shoot as much as I wanted but had a blast getting to hang out with the one and only
Congratulations to the racers on an amazing race and series!

Graduation might be (who has the exact countdown going?) days away, but I'm over here thinking cap and gown thoughts because that's just what I do......
Remember back when we parents were seniors and these were taken in a studio setting with a fake bookshelf backdrop? Or with oversized block numbers with our graduation year?
Sharing some of my favorite personality-infused cap and gown images from the last few sessions. Cap and gown portraits have come a long way from Olan Mills/JC Penney! While high schools still offer a formal setting for the yearbook, in my sessions the cap and gown portion is (optional, of course) another way to show your personality. Whether you are sending it downhill on your mountain bike, sending out your senior year with some flair, or just generally sending out seriously cute vibes, the cap and gown is a great addition to your senior session.
And don't stress if your cap and gown isn't scheduled to arrive until April (major eye roll)....I've got some tips and tricks for that as well!

For my multitaskers out there....
I often get asked if we can do a senior session AND a family session. At the same time.
My answer is always, YES, ABSOLUTELY! Do you also want to bring your pets?
Lol. I'm an overachiever, what can I say... (and I'm already planning for family + horses this season)
The key is just a little bit of planning for posing, outfits, and especially a LOCATION that will allow for a little extra time.
EVERY session booking starts with a phone call to discuss (or create) a vision for the session and that goals you wish to achieve.
If you're curious about what a family + senior session might looks like, here is a quick sample from last year. We managed to work in five (GULP! really? Did we manage five?) outfits for our senior PLUS cap and gown and then ample family photos of the entire family, all the sisters, mom and her girls, dad and his girls, mom and dad getting smoochy together...the whole works. I might have manipulated the time-space continuum on that one, but it definitely worked out!
So when this heat breaks and we can start to think of being cute outdoors again, let's get on the schedule!

Hey, fam, let's think about your family portraits this fall. And if you've got a family AND a high school senior, this is a no-brainer--let's get those both done (yes, we can do it at the same time). My super power is making portraits a breeze, not a burden. I'll walk you through choosing just the right location for your session, outfit planning, and keeping it real and relaxed during the shoot. Whether you're a family of three or thirty-teen, let's make some unforgettable memories....and maybe a few funny faces, too. Let's let those personalities shine and create images that you're going to love forever.

Well, sort of πŸ˜†....but it definitely felt like the universe knew we needed some luminescent drama for our girls' night out (on bikes, with cameras) with .adventures and
We are hoping to make this a regular event for building community through fun times on bikes with cameras for the mtb women in our community. So stay tuned for our September date! Who doesn't like rad action shots of themselves looking like a boss?
I had forgotten how gorgeous Maricopa Madness 🌡was (have I ever really noticed before?) so I'm adding that to the location bucket list stat!
Shout out to my girls for working together and doing plenty of "sessioning" to get just the right shot.
Also, note to self, don't drop your camera bag in a cactus and then put it back on your back! Yikes! Gotta work on those ninja skills! πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

So I know it's a little early, but... πŸ€” Family portraits, anyone? πŸ“Έ Let's be real, not everyone has a high school senior, but EVERYONE has a family that's due for a photo update... am I right? πŸ˜‚ I had the best time shooting this adorable fam last year and I'm finally sharing some of the fun from last year's sessions! My goal? Senior Sunday! Had to share a few images from Parker's session last week. We explored downtown Mesa on a surprisingly busy Wednesday evening. It was hot, y'all, think 111, but Parker was so chill and calm, I don't think he even sweat. Such a great urban set with a modern but classic vibe. You can NEVER go wrong with wearing a suit for part of your senior session!
By the power of Instagram (and my inclination to comment on random things) I got connected a few months ago with a photographer I've followed and admired for some time,
He was coming to the PHX area for a workshop and asked for some support with finding models. Fortunately, I knew some amazing seniors who would be perfect! It was so fun connecting some of the BEST people I know with him and his incredible workshop participant and getting to shoot some BTS images of them. Just being a fly on the wall while chatting with the moms allowed me to learn SO much from these phenomenal photographers and appreciate our beautiful desert even more through their eyes!
I can't wait for senior season to start (not only because it means the weather is cooler, but that's a good enough reason in itself). Thanks so much, for being such a great model for us both on and off the bike!

Hottest temperature for a session to date?
Who would guess it was 111 degrees for Alexandra's graduate school graduation session? We found all the shade at the Thunderbird School and old City Hall for this session right in time before graduation. Of course, A is amazing because not only did she complete this degree in record time, organized me in all the details of parking, locations, and inspo, but she looked incredibly gorgeous through the heat. Plus she coordinated loads of extended family for some final images. I'm going to miss this stunning young woman as she moves on to her next adventures across the country! It's been a delight and an honor to get to work with you, A! You've been my most exceptional cap tosser and ch*****ne shaker over the years. I may have to invite you back as a consultant to help with future sessions. Congratulations, and best of luck with your upcoming move!

COMMUNITY.

Last weekend two talented youth cyclists along with put together a grass roots event at the local pump track. (I say grass roots, but with pro timing systems, live results, and legit prizes, it was a fully pro event).
I'll be honest, I know NOTHING about this sport/community, but when I took this first photo, I knew there was something special about it. Later, one of the riders commented that it was a group of friends/acquaintances all enjoying the sport they love in the same spot, doing their own thing ,at the same time. Boom. That's what I live for. The community. The "action" is really fun as well, but documenting the friendships, the first bumps, the behind the scenes workers--that is what makes my heart full when I get to shoot at events like this.
You can tell the community is strong and the future of the sport is bright! Riders came in from all over the valley to participate in this super fun event.
And while I can't wait for sub-100-degree-temps to get back to seniors and families, I'm absolutely LOVING doing a little part to document the cycling community. I've loved meeting other bike-photographers (bike-togs?) and I am hoping to help put together and even just for the ladies coming up.......
So refill your sealant, l**e your chain, and keep riding!

Who's already back in school?
We started this Wednesday, but we escaped the heat for a super fun weekend at for the second race in the Sunrise Downhill series. I had a BLAST playing around and grabbing some images of some of the most talented, fearless, and FASTEST racers in the state! Ever-changing lighting conditions and super fast riders made it a fun challenge to capture just the right moment (in that tiny, perfect patch of light, often!).
Here are a couple of my favorites!
